Boston Surface Railroad Company
Apr. 11, 2019 7:30 a.m.
The Boston Surface Railroad Company (“BSRC”) was founded in 2012 to provide metropolitan New England with a privately owned and operated rail service along underserved, high-traffic commuter routes that lack a convenient and affordable alternative to travel by car or bus. BSRC has secured operational authority from the United States Surface Transportation Board (STB) to operate passenger service between Worcester, MA and Providence, RI and pending negotiations with the host railroad plans to commence service in 2019. BSRC has secured station rights in Worcester, entered into a long term lease with options for the historic train station in Woonsocket, RI and maintains an amicable working relationship with AMTRAK regarding Providence. Rolling stock will be reconditioned equipment that will carry an estimated 150,000 annual passengers in its first year of operation (three percent of the total commuter population) growing to eight percent—or nearly four hundred fifty thousand annual riders—within five years. |

State of the Town of Hudson
Sep. 05, 2019 7:30 a.m.
Hudson is situated east of the Merrimack River, and borders upon the Massachusetts line. It is bounded north by Litchfield and Londonderry, east by Windham and Pelham, south by Tyngsborough, Mass, and west by Nashua and Litchfield. This area was first a part of the 1673 Massachusetts Dunstable grant. In 1732, portions of Dunstable that were east of the Merrimack River and not annexed to Londonderry became Nottingham, Massachusetts. In 1741, following the establishment of New Hampshire-Massachusetts border, the town was incorporated as Nottingham West. Owing to confusion with the town of Nottingham in the north, voters petitioned to have the town renamed in 1830. The name Hudson was chosen because of its position near the point where the Merrimack River, once thought to flow east from the Hudson River, was found to come from the north. According to the 2016 national census, Hudson has a population of 25,109 and is the 4,703rd largest city in the United States. The population density is 2,589 per square mile which is 1733% higher than the New Hampshire average and 2758% higher than the national average. The median age in Hudson is 40 which is approximately 7% lower than the state average of 42. |
