Sometimes a Smile is the Best Medicine

Today’s speaker, our own Rotary member Ron Theissen, inspired and enlightened us about his nephew’s charity on Long Island, The John Theissen Children’s Foundation. The foundation is celebrating its twenty-fifth year of giving back to the community and over that time has received numerous awards including being voted  “The Best Local Charity on Long Island” by the Long Island Press.  John was inspired as a seventeen-year-old teenager when he was in a children’s hospital for serious surgery. It was there that a seven-year girl, Tasha, befriended and inspired John with her positive attitude and generous spirit.  Four years later at the age of twenty-one, John started the foundation and since then it has thrived.
