WELCOME

President Bill Vermouth welcomed all to the September 6th meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. (ED NOTE: President Bill showed off his much-improved bell ringing skills by using two bells). He introduced Club Secretary Ana Saavedra and Assistant Club Secretary Carla Lineback who welcomed everyone. (ED NOTE: Perhaps President Bill should consider getting cue cards.) Carla Lineback offered a meaningful invocation:

Thank you for the gift of Rotary and each other. Bless this food as we nourish our bodies and our minds. May we be ever mindful of those in need. Help us provide food to the hungry; to heal the wounds of hatred with love; comfort those in sorrow; bring peace to those living in areas of unrest. Through our service to all we thank you for all our gifts. Amen.

This was followed by the pledge of allegiance.

As a luncheon of roast beef, pork loin, boiled potatoes, broccoli, fruit salad, tofu, salad, bread, and chocolate chip cookies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

GUEST: Visiting (Amherst, MA) Rotarian President-elect Christie Bodin, Meg Donahue, and speakers Mary Haywood, Scott Sharland, and Sara Ryan.

TRIVIA QUESTION

Since the launch of Rise Against Hunger’s meal packaging program in 2005, how many meals for distribution around the globe have been packaged by Rotarians?
 (Answer below.)

JOKE OF THE WEEK

For our Rotary joke, Gina Pattison told the following:
Marlene and her friend were out driving in her car. As they were cruising along they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red, but they just went right on through. Marlene's friend in the passenger seat thought to herself, "I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light."

After a few more minutes they came to another inter-section and the light was red, but again Marlene just went right on through it. This time her friend was almost sure that the light had been red. She didn't say anything, but she thought to herself, "I know I must be losing it!" She was getting nervous and decided to pay very close attention to the road, and especially to the next intersection, to see what was going on.

At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was definitely red, but Marlene just drove right through it. Marlene's friend turned to Marlene and said, "Marlene, did you know you just drove through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us both!"

Marlene said, "Oh, am I driving
