WELCOME

President Bill Vermouth welcomed all to the August 23rd meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. (ED NOTE: President Bill still needs to work on his bell ringing skills since he still appears to be afraid to hit the bell.He introduced members of the Membership Committee who welcomed everyone in perfect unison. (ED NOTE: actually, only one member, Carla Lineback, represented the committee). Betsy Gentile offered a meaningful invocation. This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. (ED NOTE: should the Sargent at Arms be fined since the flag was not visible within the hall for the second time?) Birthday greetings were extended to Rhonda Calhoun.

As a luncheon of roast beef, mac&cheese, potatoes, broccoli, salad, rolls, and chocolate chip cookies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

GUEST: Jerry Carbone (speaker)

TRIVIA QUESTION

In what year was Pure Water for the World born?
 (Answer below.)

JOKE OF THE WEEK

For our Rotary joke, Marty Cohn told the following:

A man walks into a bar with a dog. The bartender says, "You can't bring that dog in here."

"You don't understand," says the man. "This is no regular dog, he can talk."

"Listen, pal," says the bartender. "If that dog can talk, I'll give you a hundred bucks."

The man puts the dog on a stool, and asks him, "What's on top of a house?"

"Roof!"

"Right. And what's on the outside of a tree?"

"Bark!"

"And who's the greatest baseball player of all time?"

"Ruth!"

"I guess you've heard enough," says the man. "I'll take the hundred in twenties."

The bartender is furious. "Listen, pal," he says, "get out of here before I belt you."

As soon as they're on the street, the dog turns to the man and says, "Do you think I should have said 'DiMaggio'?"
