With Covid Precautions, Bedford Rotary Runs its 3rd Annual Trails to Ales Event

The 3rd annual Rotary Trails to Ales event was held in perfect summer evening weather on Thursday August 20 in Bedford. Conforming with social distancing guidelines for running events, 101 contestants were spread over 6 starting times 10 minutes apart. Running through the fields and wood trails of Earl Legacy Park. Runners timed themselves, and while enroute, were able to choose either a 2 kilometer or the traditional 5km course when they came to a “fork in the road”.

Though the event featured kids and family fun, the 5K race attracted some elite runners. Last year's overall winner, Kara Haas of Chelmsford, Massachusetts was the first woman to finish the 5K race in a time of 21:58. This year’s overall 5K winner was Caleb Hagner of New Boston with a time of 21:26.

After running, all were treated to hamburgers, with soft drinks and lawn games for kids. Adults were able to sample the offerings of five local breweries and the LaBelle Winery.

The Bedford Rotary Club would like to thank the sponsors who made this year’s Trails to Ales event possible: Northeast Delta Dental, Goedecke Decorating, Catholic Medical Center, and Land Rover of Bedford. Proceeds from the event fund the Rotary Club of Bedford’s charitable and scholarship activities.
