STUNNING DEBUT BY HYDE PARK ROTARY CLUB AT BUNNINGS BBQ

On Sunday 7th January 2018 the Hyde Park Rotary Club conducted its first ever BBQ at the Bunnings Mile End store in perfect weather for such an event. We were all much relieved that the cool change had arrived and we were able to spend the day in relative comfort in the BBQ tent selling to a constant stream of eager customers.
The set up team of Andrew Sullivan, Rob and Jim Handley arrived at 8.00 am and started putting things into place and by 8.30 am the morning shift of Gerry Greenway, Norma Ganzis, Colleen Rhaggianti, Sandy Matz, Sue and Peter Whitehouse, Julian Lugg and Yoshi Ikeda began arriving for a 9.00 am start.

A steady stream of customers were catered for by our enthusiastic team and by lunchtime the pace started to increase just in time for the afternoon shift of Alan Moss, Geoff Hudson, Margaret Blake, Lyn Pomery, Andrew Sullivan and Rob Handley.
This team worked flat out until mid afternoon when things quietened down a bit but there was still a steady stream of hungry and thirsty shoppers who appreciated the efforts of our gallant team.
Treasurer Peter Griffiths arrived as we were getting our second wind and started counting the money in his counting house. You couldn’t wipe the grin off his face as we kept progressively handing him more money and by 4 pm when we started winding down he was looking like a Cheshire Cat.
It was a very successful debut for the club and also a most enjoyable one for all who attended. Thanks go to them.

Events like this do not just happen and there was a great deal of behind the  scenes planning involved and for this we are most grateful to Mike McAuliffe, Sam and Libby Savis, the Handley brothers and Andrew Sullivan who managed the logistics of buying and delivering all that we needed on the day.

We are scheduled for another 5 events at Mile End in 2018 and we look forward to some more worthwhile and enjoyable days like this in order to raise money for others less fortunate than ourselves.
