Save the date & clean out the Junk!

Do you have a cellphone from 1999 hidden in your closet?

A computer or CPU you haven't used since 2004?

An analog TV set that's going obsolete this year?

Now's the time to collect that electronic waste and turn it into something good!

You can drop off your electronic waste (e-waste) for free on February 28, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church, located at Olympic Boulevard and Flower Street.

According to the California Integrated Waste Management Board, many of us are hoarding e-waste. E-waste includes computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines are common electronic products.

With the passage of the Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003, it became illegal to toss these items in the trash. Researchers estimate that nearly 75 percent of old electronics are in storage, in part because of the uncertainty of how to manage the materials. Combine this with increasing advances in technology and new products headed towards the market and it is no wonder that "e-waste" is a popular topic.

Led by our corporate partner, NeuWaste, we are joining with the First United Methodist Church of Los Angeles to host an electronic waste collection event on February 28, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place at Olympic Boulevard and Flower Street, in the FUMCLA parking lot.
