Jessica Summers has been Head of the Japanese Language Department at Arcadia High School since 1995.  She has lived extensively in Japan and was a Co-Host/Teacher for an English language program on Japanese television station NHK, taught English at Tokyo International College, and has studied at the Stanford Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies and Sophia University.
Under her leadership, the Japanese program at Arcadia High School has grown by three times its original enrollment and new programs such as AP Japanese and cultural exchange visits to Japan have been introduced.  She engages students by incorporating topics about contemporary Japan in her teaching such as pop culture, to encourage language skills development beyond the classroom.
Jessica has a B.A. in Japanese from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, an M.A. in Education from Whittier College and received her CA State Credential in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language from California State University, Los Angeles.
