On Tuesday May 27 the Rotary Club of Downtown Los Angeles brought The Dictionary Project to the Equitas Academy Charter School in the Pico Union neighborhood of Los Angeles.  Club President Kathleen Copus, club members Jesse Rhines, Pilar Buelna, Louise Oliver, Brando Parada and Tina Olson, along with club friend Shelley Drievold, distributed dictionaries to the 3rd grade classes during a special morning assembly.  Rotarian were welcomed with fight songs from the Ivy League college-themed classes, and the students beamed with pride as they took home their very own copies of the books at an age where children transition from learning to read, to reading to learn.  The event had special meaning as our club helped to found this school, which is doing so well it's expanding to other grades/facilities.  We can't wait to do it again with next year's 3rd grade class!
