Speaker Recap: Chloe McCurdy, Founder, Heartland Supply Company

Our Rotary Club welcomed Chloe McCurdy, founder of Heartland Supply Company, who shared her inspiring journey of building a locally rooted retail business at a remarkably young age. Chloe’s entrepreneurial spirit began early—by age 10 she was selling handmade jewelry—and was shaped by growing up around her mother’s small businesses. That foundation helped her navigate real‑world challenges, including a house fire in 2020 and the uncertainty of the COVID era, while continuing to pursue new business ideas grounded in her Christian values and commitment to community.
In May 2024, just one week after graduating high school, Chloe opened the first Heartland Supply Company storefront in Marion. What began as a single location has quickly expanded to three shops, including locations in Czech Village and Palo, which opened in March 2026. Heartland Supply Company offers a thoughtfully curated selection of locally and Midwest‑sourced goods such as hand‑poured candles, tallow products, artisan chocolates, apothecary items, gifts, and permanent jewelry. Chloe also shared that corporate gifting has become a growing part of the business.
As the company has grown, Chloe discussed the challenges of scaling, including staffing, inventory management, and learning to step back from doing everything herself. She emphasized the importance of systems and processes, as well as staying true to Heartland’s mission of supporting local makers and keeping production close to home, with some products made in‑house. Looking ahead, Chloe plans to expand to larger spaces in Marion and Czech Village this summer, with a long‑term vision of bringing Heartland Supply Company to communities throughout the Midwest while maintaining strong local ties.
Members were energized by Chloe’s story of resilience, creativity, and disciplined growth—and inspired by what’s possible when passion and community values guide entrepreneurship.
