FIVE GOOD REASONS AND FIVE, PERHAPS NOT QUITE SO GOOD REASONS, TO VISIT CHARLES CITY

My Charles City Rotarians are working very hard to provide you with a great experience at our District Conference on June 1 and 2. Please take advantage of their efforts by going to our District website and registering now for the conference – I assure you that it will be a worthwhile experience.
In thinking back to David Letterman’s “Top 10” segment it was easy to discern the top five reasons for attending the District Conference this year:
  1. To exchange ideas with and receive inspiration from your fellow Rotarians.
  2. To hear two outstanding world-class speakers on the subject of world hunger: Ambassador Ken Quinn, President of the World Food Prize; and Dr. Jerry Nelson, Ag. Consultant to North Korea.
  3. Opportunity to thank retiring District Executive Secretary John Last for his years of service to our District and to meet our new Executive Secretary from New Hampton, Iowa, Suellen Kolbet.
  4. To enjoy the fine food and entertainment provided by the Charles City Rotary Club.
  5. To learn about the many projects and programs ongoing in our District, specifically including our youth exchange program and a clubfoot project in Mexico.
But, there are five less apparent reasons for visiting Charles City on June 1st and 2nd that you might consider:
  1. When you are on your next luxury cruise and the people at your dining table are bragging about their trips to Machu Pichu and Patagonia, you can say: “Well, have any of you been to Charles City, Iowa?”
  2. Opportunity to visit a community of 7,800 people that boasts: two quality golf courses; a world-class kayak course; an art museum with original works by Rembrandt, Albrecht Durer, Salvador Dali, and Thomas Hart Benton; and, of course, a Pizza Ranch.
  3. Find out who “Charles” is.
  4. Discover one more good bathroom stop on the Avenue.
  5. Enjoy a drive on one of the first warm days of 2018.
See you all in Charles City.

Your District Governor,
