As last reported, January started off wonderfully with President Bev giving her State of the Club assembly, with discussion regarding attendance, membership, and bylaws along with her listing of what we have accomplished and what we are planning.

Our January 23rd, four-club "JIMbalaya" fundraiser for Shelterbox went extremely well, with Harbor Rotary very well represented in beautiful Sausalito. Also find many pictures on our Facebook page.. Pictured to the left are Jim and Nancy Carriere (the "Jim" in the "JIMbalaya"), John Bottari, and Aref Ahmadia. SHELTERBOX was the cause and good food was the fun!
Left to right, Aref Ahmadia, Nancy Carriere, Susan Lundy, President Bev Shwert, and Karen Hansen-Thompson.
On January 12, attorney Lisa Poncia gave an informative and moving analysis of Elder Law and how it applies in Marin, with specifics and case studies that brought out many excellent questions and after-meeting chats. Her professionalism and knowledge, combined with her obvious empathy with elders, made us all happy we attended.

2014-2015 District Governor Chris Gallagher came to give our Club the award for being the second highest Club in the District in financial contributions to the Foundation. Her Foundation Chair and our own (former DG) John Bottari was there to present the award to last year's President, Susan Lundy. Susan said she would put it on our felt banner display right "below Aref's award" since the year before...he got 1st in the District instead of 2nd!!

On January 18, Oak Dowling gave a rousing speech with hand-outs and powerpoint slides on the always interesting topic of the kidnapping of Charles Lindberg's baby boy.
Hugh Murphy, President Elect for 2016-2017, and Carola Detrick, President Elect for 2017-2018, both attended the Foundation Management seminar at Recology this past Saturday, January 30th. Chris Major, President Elect for 2018-2019, passed on this year's meeting! Your scribe has not heard the report, but I think they will have learned much, quickly. Photo courtesy of Gene Duffy.

Cindy Stameroff, CPA, received the International Peace Award plaque for achieving Major Donor status with Rotary International. (Hint: That means more than $10,000 contributed to Rotary International Foundation. She follows Harborites John Bottari, Jim Carriere, and Helen Abe. Also, Jeff Allen received another Paul Harris pin for his Paul Harris +7 contribution ((This is in addition to more than 25 years perfect attendance, former Club President, and major Donor to Rotary Manor...whew! Good man.) Last but not least, our own Prexy-Elect Hugh Murphy received his Paul Harris +2 pin.
Video/Documentary Film/Photographer and Harbor Rotary member S.J. (Kramer) Herzog happened to be cleaning his files (New Year's Resolution???) and found the attached letter from Harry Albert to S.J. HERZOG (Kramer's grandfather) asking for his Rotary contribution for the "ROTARY BATHING BEACH FUND", and to please send the contribution to fund chair ROY WILKIE. Kramer presented the letter (which included the written notation that his $25 donation was paid by check) to fellow member Jeff Allen, who is one of the two current owners of the venerable Minto-Wilkie Insurance Agency (the other being Rotarian John Rickards).
