Hello my fellow Rotarians of Ventura East. We had a good group of attendees at our last meeting, both in person and on zoom. The computer decided that it wanted to do an update as Margarida Eidson got started so fortunately she had an extra so the zoomers could join in. Better late than never.
Bruce McGee led us in the pledge to the flag, and Joe Bova introduced our guests, Gerry, a former program, and Breanne, a guest of Emily Barany. Stacy prepared a great lunch so everyone was in a hurry to get in line. After lunch, Bruce McGee, (filling in for Kathy McGee), gave a very good inspirational message, and Rich Stewart sold a record number of raffle tickets. Margarida Eidson gave a report on the 30 cases of poinsettias that have already been sold and solicited another few case sales to be donated to the Retirement Home.
Emily Barany was proud to present one of her employees, Breanne, with an award of “Employee of the Quarter”. Congratulations Breanne. Sharon Daly was presented a $2,000.00 check for The Mossy Foot Project. She also reminded us that October 25 is World Polio Day. Please remember the foundation in your generous donations.
Vance Thompson spoke about the unfortunate rise in suicides among our youth. Most adults are having trouble right now trying to navigate thru life. How much harder must it be for our youth? Please be aware of the signs. Emily announced that we had a great response to the Food Share project on Wednesday, with 7 volunteers from our group.
Vance Thompson reminded our members that the protocol is a bit different when being admitted to the hospital these days and you may want to speak with our doctors to find ways to navigate the system a bit easier. Our program this week were Jeff and Derek, from the city of Ventura, explaining to us the changes of the streets of Ventura to help them more pedestrian friendly. This was a very informative talk. They are asking our help in giving our opinions to some questions that have been formulated. You can visit their website at ActivePlanVentura.com.
Just a reminder that that Rotary Club of Santa Paula is having their annual Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser the entire month of October. They are requesting some volunteers from our club to work either Saturday or Sunday on any of the remaining weekends. Please contact me for scheduling information.
