President's Message

It was great seeing such a big turn-out for Dave Stork's Celebration of Life. I think Midge and her family put together a very nice celebration of Dave's life and it was good seeing so many Rotarian's in their Rotary shirts present. I know Midge appreciated that very much!

The 40 Items in 40 Days Challenge is over. If you participated and dropped your bag off at a non-profit of your choosing, thank you! If you haven't dropped your bag off, bring it to Rotary this week or next and I will get the items off to ARC.

The District 5240 Social at Dodger Stadium is open for registration. An email went out earlier this week on how to register with a link, if you didn't get the link, let me know and I will get it too you.

Aut2Run…but I am going to walk

Last year I ran the 5k in under 45 minutes. I was so excited and scared that I had agreed to do this as part of Gavin’s Team. What was I thinking? I was thinking that my friend needed to bring awareness to Autism and as a friend, I laced up my shoes and ran. Since then, I have finished 4 other races. My mind is full of complaints the whole time I run but then quickly sign up for the next run. Those who know me, know I am not an outdoor person. Camping for me is staying a night at the Marriott with no room service. However, as a Leo, I love fiercely. This means that when my friends and family need my support I’m there, no questions asked.

When Ventura East agreed to have a team there since our very own Ashley Pope suggested it, I signed up no questions asked. My challenge though is that as a busy professional, I haven’t had much time to train this year. The stubborn side of my character is egging me on to run but my sensible side is reminding me that I can walk. Walk! I walked last week for the Ronald McDonald walk and loved it. Could I put aside my competitive side and accept that walking is ok? It reminds me of the Tortoise and the Hare story. Did the Hare work harder that the Tortoise? No but the Tortoise worked smarter. Slow and steady still got the job done ad that’s how I will approach the 5k. I will support my friends and represent Ventura East as I walk and enjoy spending time with friends.
