Elevator Speech

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian social organization comprising local business, civic and professional leaders. We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to solve community and global problems with service projects. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools
Internationally we support a medical project in Ethiopia and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community. Use your professional skills and talents to make a difference.

Rotary Club of Ventura-East 2022 Scholarship Application

Multiple Scholarships of up to $7,500.00 will be awarded.

Approximately $125,000.00 will be awarded.

Available to graduating VUSD seniors who are attending two or four year colleges or vocational & technical schools. Prior scholarship recipients may re-apply.

Hello Rotarians and friends of The Rotary Club of Ventura East. It is with much sadness that I must
announce the passing of one of our beloved members, Midge Stork. Midge passed away peacefully in
the early hours of Monday March 7. She will be remembered for all of her hard work, not only in our
club, but in The Botanical Garden near City Hall. Midge was a very kind and passionate woman and will
truly be missed. Not details have been released yet, but will be announced as soon as possible.

As everyone is aware by now, the Ukraine is in a fight for its life. So many of its citizens have been
displaced, and fighting for their lives as they want to remain a free country. With limited food weapons,
and supplies, many Americans are asking how they can help. As Rotarians, we know that Rotary is
always going to lend a hand. Anyone interested in making a contribution may send a check to
International and on the “subject”’ line, write UKRAINE. If you would prefer to have our club forward
the check for you, we will be happy to.

Our meeting last Thursday was, in my opinion, a huge success and very educational. After given a tour of
the facility, we met with the principal, and other dignitaries, and told how the program is working and
the future plans. This will be a tremendous opportunity for our club to help with financial and
community service projects.

This Saturday is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Please come and join us either by marching alongside, or by
watching us curbside. Be sure to join us afterwards at Topa Topa for some Irish Brew.
Please don’t forget to register for the Aut2Run and the Ronald McDonald Walk for Kids. These are very
special programs for our club and they need all of the support that we can give.

As announced last Thursday, we will be meeting in the smaller room from now on for our meetings. The
smaller room should make it easier for everyone to hear what is going on. A reminder that this month,
we will not be meeting for an evening social on the third Thursday. Because the third Thursday just
happens to be St. Patrick’s day, we will be meeting at noon at the Poinsettia Pavilion, with a VERY VERY
special program. Please remember to wear green as it is a lucky color.

Meeting February 24, 2022

Margarida Eidson led us in the Salute to the Flag.

Steve Harbison gave our Inspirational Message.

President Cal passed around a clipboard for meeting responsibilities and a signup sheet for the Pacific High School off-site meeting.

President Cal also passed around the flyer for the St Patrick’s Day parade.

Rich Stewart sold opportunity drawings tickets for a gift donated by Carin Kally.

President Cal announced that Richard Jimenez, a former club member, passed away early February. Joe Strohman said a few words about Richard.

Joe Strohman announced we will have Student of the Quarter March 24^th. The 4 Way Test Essay contest us underway.

Joe Strohman announced that Kathy McGee and Tim Hughes have submitted their names for the Foundation Board. The Club unanimously elected both of them to the Foundation Board.

We will have a regular meeting on the 3^rd Thursday in March in lieu of an evening social.

Bob Noville presented a Paul Harris Fellow to his daughter in law, Rachel Moore Shankle.

President Cal let us know that the board elected to make the following donations:

$2,500 to Aut2Run
$2,500 to Ronald McDonald Walk for Kids
