Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

Last week Wade’s presentation was remarkably interesting.

I would like to take this time to thank our 2 weekly volunteers Ken Kagan and Cal Magro for helping to pass out the dinners every Thursday.

This week we will have Spencer Burke from the National Park Service

Vaccine Update: Effective immediately those 75 and older can register to be vaccinated in Ventura County. You must live in Ventura County, show proof of residency and proof of age upon arrival at the appointment. Appointments can be accessed at the following link: www.venturacountyrecovers.org/vaccine-information/portal/

Meeting January 7, 2021

Sharon Daily led us in the Flag Salute.

Opportunity drawing was a 2021 Axxess Card.

Roy Valdez let us know we sold 295 cases for $16,500. Our net was $4,700 - $5,000.

President Margarida shared a card from the residents at Cypress Place thanking us for the Poinsettia donations.

Amber Stevens thanked club members who helped with Bell Ringing at Christmas.

Ashley Pope let us know that Interact is going strong. Membership is currently about 15. They are trying to put together a drive to collect women’s products for a non-profit.

We have 5 RYLA spots and they are all filled at this point.

Joe Strohman reported that the Club Foundation needs two at large directors. If you are interested, let Joe know.

Joe also thanked everyone who donated for the toy drive at Christmas. The drive is still on going, they need toys year round.

4 Way Test Essay contest is a go. Balboa Middle school has confirmed they are going to participate. Ashley is checking on Buena High School.

Tim Hughes said that the 2021 Scholarship Application is posted on the website.

Joe Strohman let us know that the club foundation is at about $3.2 million.

Our program today was Ashley Bautista, Public Relations for the County of Ventura.

Thank you from Cypress Place

The residents from Cypress Place Senior Living wanted to reach out and give us a "BIG" Thank You for the Poinsettias that were delivered to all of the residents. They appreciated the poinsettias very much and sent a few pictures for us to enjoy!
