Congratulations to District Governor Sandi Schwartz for completing her 100 mile Ride to Nowhere. What is a ride to nowhere and why would someone do that anyway? It's a fundraiser to raise money for End Polio Now and participants get sponsors to donate to End Polio Now and ride 100 miles on their stationary bikes, hence ride to nowhere! This was, I believe, D.G. Sandi's second Ride to Nowhere and I will just say my admiration and accolades go out to D.G. Sandi. First off I would not really want to ride 100 miles on a bike but to do it on a stationary bike seems a little off to me. I don't think I could stand not at least seeing the scenery going by and yes, you could watch a "few" movies, but ...

We had our Nightmare on the Hill event this past Saturday and to say we could have had better attendance is an understatement. For those that were there, we had good fellowship and had fun playing some casino games. A had some people on the dance floor and the bar was a popular place, but again, as a club we need to be much better at promoting our events and selling tickets.

We are entering the holiday season and will be sponsoring some military families for the holidays, thank you Joe Strohman and your committee. Thank you to Rich Stewart for working with the Salvation Army and bell ringing and Ashley Pope will be working with the Marines and Toys for Tots again this year. We have a lot to be thankful for and I really appreciate the work put in by our club to help others in our community.

Our speaker this week will be Wendy Gillett from the Lake Casitas Rowing Association and next week our speaker will be Bill Hicks!

Good, better, best. Never let it rest. 'Til your good is better and your better is best.

NOT SO SILENT CORNER

Human Trafficking

Fall is in the air. For us, it means Thanksgiving and family is not far away but for many it means one more holiday they get to work off debt or be forced to do things that would make most of us cringe.  Human Trafficking robs the victim of their humanity and hope. Not in my community you say? You’d be surprised. This is the reason why Rotary is setting its sight on helping stop human trafficking. It is happening in our communities and maybe to someone you already know.  If this is something you’d like to help stop, then come to a Rotary Club of Ventura-East meeting and hear how you can be involved in the upcoming Human Trafficking Symposium. Being informed and educated on the subject is a great way to start the process to end this horrible epidemic.
