Hello friends and fellow Rotarians of Ventura East. Welcome to 2022. I hope you all had great holidays, both healthy and memorable. For those who missed our year-end meeting, you missed a great time, please know that you were missed. With attendance at approximately 80, we were joined by Rotarians of Ventura South and President M. K., Ventura Downtown with President Rob Van Nieuburg, and Downtown Lions with President Ed Rogoff. We were also honored to have Lions Past District Governors Bill Dunlevy and Margaret Dunlevy. Some of our members were surprised to discover that some of the Lions members were also members of the Downtown Rotary Club.
Our meeting started with a Flag Salute from Vance Thompson, and a short business meeting. Our inspiration was a joint collaboration from Carin Kally. and Jeff Bugh. The three visiting club presidents were then asked to give a short talk about their upcoming projects, and how we might be able to help each other. Then, the real fun started. The 4 club presidents were all seated at the front of the stage and given a new year’s hat and a noise maker. Margarida Eidson asked some New Years questions, and the presidents competed to give the right answers. The contest was very close, so each received a prize. After that experience, we all sang a couple of songs that Margarida Eidson showed on the television screens. I now know why our club is not a singing club. Thank you, Margarida, for saving the day. The meeting was adjourned after a toast to the New Year given by Jeff Burgh.
We are now at the beginning of a new year, which usually means new resolutions. The last two years have been full of challenges, the likes of which we have never seen before, and hopefully will never see again. Unfortunately, many people believe that the virus is here to stay, and we will all just have to learn to live with it. Also, because we have had to learn a new way of life, we are seeing that many people’s tempers are shorter, and many are under more stress. We must all remember that although we may not agree with certain beliefs, we are all in this thing together, and we must remember to be tolerant of each other. Showing respect for each other is the single most human thing that we can do, and the basis of The Four Way Test. In my opinion, if we do nothing else this year as Rotarians, it should be to Live and Teach others to live The Four Way Test.
