Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

We had a highly informative meeting last week from the Fire Safe Council.

Thank you to both Cal Magro and Ken Kagan who volunteered to pass out dinners last Thursday night, they saved the day, we served 120 dinners, our record.

Breakout rooms were again successful last week so we will continue with a 10-minute groups of 3 or 4 at the beginning of the meeting. If you arrive late to the meeting please wait until I place you in a room.

This week after our Social time in the Breakout rooms we will have announcements and then we will have an all Club Assembly in separate Breakout rooms. You will have to choose 2 groups you would like to meet; I will ask you at the meeting wish ones you choose to meet for 15 minutes.

We will have Community Service, Vocational, International, Youth.

Coming up in the future we will have:

October 15^th – Zoom Game night meeting and a physical distant diner at a local restaurant

October 22^nd - Ventura Botanical Garden

October 29^th - Call for Polio – Gary Needham

November 6-7-8 Virtual District Conference

Kathy McGee gave our Inspirational Message

Today we used breakout rooms in Zoom to create small groups to chat. That was so much fun.

For our Opportunity Drawing today, Bruce McGee donated a $50 gift certificate to Café Zack.

Bruce McGee presented Adonis Campillo with his Paul Harris Fellowship.

Ventura Homeless Shelter…VPD is asking for help

Bruce McGee donated $91 happy dollars in memory of his father.

President Margarida showed clips of Tom Hashbarger’s memorial.

Our program was Michelle Hubbard who spoke about leadership and speaking with a shine.

Opportunity Drawing winner was Todd Juvonen. Todd wanted to give it to someone else and that lucky winner was Adonis Campillo!!!

The family of Tom Hashbarger held a private, due to COVID-19 restrictions, Celebration of Life for Tom on September 12th and have recorded this celebration and would like to share it with members of the club.
