Wow! Can you feel it? All of the excitement in the air!
What a great time to be getting involved. No Masks,. No social distancing for most. Enjoying each other’s company at meetings, social events, and work projects.
At our last meeting we had some remarkable students reading the winning essays on the 4 Way Test. Whenever I get fearful for the future generations, I fortunately get to see students like these and I know that the world will be in good hands. Thank you volunteers for reading all of the essays and making such difficult choices.
We had such a remarkable Step-Down recognition party. The room was decorated as only Margarida could command, the food was naturally delicious from our master chef Stacy, and the bar was perfectly stocked, with our world famous bartender extraordinaire Vance in charge. The evening started with our Master of Ceremonies, second to none Joe Strohman welcoming all, including special guests, our new District Governor Dana Moldovan and Governor Elect Scott Phillips. We had a very heartfelt memorial to our fallen members during Covid, including slides, and recaps given by Harriet and Rich. First time recipients of the Paul Harris Fellow Awards were awarded to Margarida, Emily Barany, and Carol Burgh.
First Jeff Burgh recapped the clubs list of accomplishments during his year. He then gave out Rotarian of the year awards to Ashley Pope and Kathy McGee for their hard work. He also gave out The Rookie of the Year Award to Emily Barany.
Next to grace the stage was Margarida. With a few new categories, Bill Spellman received the Closet Award During Covid, Carin Kally, for Best Dressed During Covid, Joe Strohman for Spotlight on Rotarians, and Bruce McGee for Membership. Oscar Hernandez received Rookie of the year Award and
Member of the Year awards were presented to Ken Kagan and Cal Magro.
Next was the presentation of the Past Presidents Plaques, Pins, and Badges and the Presidents Gavel to Cal Magro.
Jim Word installed our new officers and directors and then the band played and a great time was had by all.
We have a fantastic board of directors this year that is anxious to serve you and the community. We have many ideas for projects and fellowship, and welcome all of yours. The future programs are as follows
- July 1 Discuss the upcoming year and get fresh thoughts
- July 8 Nurses Scholarships
- July 15 Social at the Rotary Plaza at Botanical Gardens
- July 22 –Jeff Moorhouse- Angels Flight
