Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and a safe and sane New Year. On December 27th, Roy & Jess Valdez, Todd Juvonen, Alison Thompson, Ashtin Costa, Kyle Hata, Jordan Zima, Jared Zima and I made the trek out to Irwindale to help with the Rotary Rose Parade Float. It was a long day, but it was fun. The fruits of everyone's labor were on full display on New Year's Day. I thought the float was beautiful!

We are in 2019 and half way through the Rotary year. We have done a lot so far, but we have so much more to do. Our major project will be the Ronald McDonald Walk scheduled for April 7th. There is much organization to do and Amber Stevens will be keeping us informed and looking for help. This is an important event for our community and a big chance to get Rotary out in front of our community.

Our speaker this week will be Tim Blackwell. Tim will be speaking about his experience working with the Suicide Prevention Hotline. This is sure to be an interesting program. See you all Thursday!

Gifts that keep Giving

With the recent Fires and the Anniversary of Thomas Fire just concluded, it isn’t hard to find ways to find gifts that keep on giving. Normally, I would spend most of the year making gifts for those I love and hold dear but this year, I decided to gift time. I will spend time with people I keep meaning to reach out to. I will spend time with those who have no one else to wish Happy Holidays to. I am also going to make memories instead of gifts. Lucky for me that Rotary Ventura East let’s me do all this through so many activities planned for December and beyond. The gift that keep on giving happens to be readily available and I am sure there will be no lines to purchase it, no returns or exchanges needed.

In this spirit, if any of you would like to have coffee or just get together, let me know. Because this year, I will be doing what I love best: serving my community and supporting Jeff in his efforts.
