The 40 Items - 40 Day Challenge is coming to an end. If you have been collecting items over the last 40 days that's fantastic. Remember, you can donate the items to a non-profit of your choice or you can bring your bag to Rotary and we will make a group donation. The charity we will be donating too is ARC of Ventura County. This is a charity that I have made donations too and they truly appreciate what you  donate.

The Celebration of Life for Dave Stork will be held this Saturday, April 20th at the First United Methodist Church on Santa Clara. Midge asks that all Rotarians who attend to please wear a Rotary Shirt. Rotary meant a lot to Dave and it would mean a lot to Midge for us to show our support to her by wearing our Rotary shirts. There will be a light lunch at Midge's house after the service. I will have the address for both the church and Midge's house at Rotary this week.

Thank you to those who came out to the Sip & See on Tuesday. It was fun creating our visions and then sprucing them up with spices. It was also fun to hang out with those who came and get to know them better. I hope we can get a good turn out for the blend you own curry night next month. Speaking of next month, we will be holding a social at the escape rooms in the Ventura Harbor with a gathering at The Greek after. Keep May 30th open and be sure to come out and see if you and your group can break the code and escape the escape room!

I hope that everyone has a good Easter Weekend and that you have the opportunity to spend time with family and friends.

You miss 100% of the shots you never take.

Rotary Family

I had heard the term Rotary Family but not until this year did, I truly understand it. You see, I’ve been on the outside looking in for a few years now. Yes, I joined Jeff at conferences and attended meetings but my favorite part was always talking to the spouses of Rotarians. Recently I was told spouse are Rotorooters. I don’t like this term but it fits since spouses often root for our Rotarians. Dave Stork was a spouse and he was one of the first people who greeted me at my first event, Christmas party in 2014. Smiled and talked about Rotary like a pro. Dave recently passed and our spouse section has lost a beautiful part of it.  Ventura and my Rotary Family will remember him fondly and keep Midge in our hearts and prayers.

This got me thinking, what do spouses really do? Let me share what my role has been this year. I have planned events and reached out to members. I have sent greeting cards and acted as an unofficial host at meetings, always making sure visitors who sit by me feel like they belong. I have walked and fundraised alongside Jeff in numerous ways. I have also now planned a long vacation for us to take at the end of his presidency. A spouse for the President or any Board member is different from a member in that we work along side our Rotarian and are a little bit more active. However, next year is just two and a half months away and I am now getting ready to not have a platform to reach each of you. By the end of Jeff’s term, I will also have written 50 articles for you and I hope my Rotary family have enjoyed my quirky sense of humor. I may not be a Rotarian but I know I will continue to root and support.
