The Holidays are just about here! Poinsettias are the name of the game right now. Thank you to everyone who has been out there hustling sales and getting the word out. Let’s kick the festivities into high gear this Thursday! We will have meeting time to make calls to people who ordered last year that we haven’t yet heard from. Bring your favorite pen and Happy Holiday spirit.
Along the lines of Holiday Cheer, the projects and events we have coming up to support this holiday season: Bring unwrapped toys and books for kids to the meetings for Jacquelyn Gargano to take to Ronald McDonald Family Room at VCMC where Santa will have regular rounds to make. I hear the hospital pediatric unit is full to capacity, so lots of cheer is needed this season. We will be bell ringing for the Salvation Army in front of Green Thumb this year on both December 16th and 23rd. Please be generous with your time and sign up with Cal Magro. The Club’s Holiday Party invitation will include a list of items to bring to donate to the Family Justice Center.
If you are looking for something amazing to do for the holidays, you can still sign up to decorate the Rotary Rose Parade Float. We have two members going on December 27th for the 4-11 p.m. shift. You can check it out and sign up at rotaryfloat.org. If you go to “see who’s going” you will see the complete availability. There is a $15 cost to cover the t-shirt and lunch or dinner.
Last week we had a heartwarming and heart-wrenching program from Jody Plum whose family established Chayah Children’s Home in Uganda. Thank you to Tim Hughes for bringing the program and to all who donated on the spot, matching Tim’s pledge of $500. We will talk more about the potential for this project to be part of our International service efforts at our General Assembly in January.
