Happy Spring! We are now officially into spring time and I love it! The weather is getting warmer, days will get longer, our hills are green, the wild flowers are in full bloom and did you all see the Painted Lady's migrating through our area this week! What an amazing site that was to see so many butterflies flying through our town on their way up north. They say this was the largest migration since 2002. I hope we get to see this again soon!

Spring is a time of awakening and new beginnings. Animals that hibernate start to come out of their hibernation, the blue jays are picking my hanging pots to pieces getting pieces of material to build nests with. We typically do a deep clean of our homes in the spring hence the term Spring Cleaning and probably best of all we have Spring Training and the start of a new baseball season and all the excitement that comes with that.

I would like to see our club come out of it's winter slumber and get excited and participate in all the fantastic events and celebrations that are coming up this spring. We start with Buena Interact Club's Beach Clean-up on March 23rd, followed by the District Training Assembly and our Puzzle Challenge on March 30th. I would like to see next year's board attend the Training Assembly and support Jeff Burgh as he builds towards July 1st. Then we have the Walk for Kids in support of the Ronald McDonald Family Room at VCMC on April 7th. If you haven't signed up, please do so. You can sign up online or let Amber Stevens know and she can sign you up. The registration cost is only $25 and this goes towards such a fantastic cause. Let's get out and show our support for this project.

The Rotary Club of Ventura turns 100 this year and will be having a 100 Year celebration on May 4th. We will also be celebrating the opening of Rotary Plaza that afternoon.

I invite all of you to come and support our events and do the good things in our community that we love to do.

Don't forget about the "Forty Days - Forty Items" challenge. Starting on March 6th we are challenging you to remove one item from your closet that you no longer use or wear. At the end of the forty days either donate the items to a non-profit of your choice or bring your bag to the club and we will donate the items to a non-profit who can use the items. I know Rosandra and I will be participating and I trust many of our club members will also.

If you're going through hell, keep going.

NOT SO SILENT CORNER

March is Here!

So, March is here, and it just dawned on me that we have a month of 5ks and walks and hiking ahead of us. I’m a busy gal but considering what just happened with Dad, I must make time to take care of myself. So, anyone want to go for a walk? I normally would have a few takers for wine tasting but I want to challenge you all to join us for Ronald McDonald walk and have some fun. I know what you are thinking, but I can’t do this on my own. I need each of you to help me train.

Why the enthusiasm overload? My sweet sister reminded me that I will be 45 this year, ancient to some but just a baby to others. At first, I thought I should swim around the pier in August to celebrate the milestone, but I have never been in the ocean water, just my YMCA pool. I have a theory that I will be fine since our own Amber Stevens taught me to swim two years ago. I was swimming laps for about 45 minutes before the holiday break.  I’ll let you in on what I have discovered: I like being active and it calms my never-quiet mind. With all that has occurred, I have come to terms with the fact that as busy as we all are, we have to also make time to heal and go within. The Ventura YMCA is my go-to place for this. Did you know that there is Aqua Zumba on Saturday mornings and a yoga class? I can swim laps and get a class in al before 9 am most weekends. I’ve missed out on some classes lately due to work and I cringe when I hear myself say that I am too tired to go. Well, that stops now! Plus, I have to be able to run circles around my sister, who is turning 30 this year. I wonder if she will like me reminding her?
