Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with friends and family! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year because we spend the time with our family and we get to eat! I'm not a "Black" Friday person, but I do support our local small businesses so please do shop small and local when you can.

This weekend will be a somber weekend for many people in Ventura. We are approaching the 1 year anniversary of the Thomas Fire. There will be a remembrance concert at Libby Bowl on December 1st and on Monday December 3rd there will be another remembrance event at City Hall in Ventura. While many of the people who lost their homes are in the midst of recovery we cannot forget about what happened a year ago and those we lost. A somber time indeed.

Don't forget that this week is our Poinsettia Delivery day. If you have the time available, Judy can use some help at 9:00 to unload poinsettias and be sure to bring your trucks or your biggest vehicle to help deliver! Please do not bring your convertible sports car as it's supposed to rain that day and I wouldn't want you to get wet!

What I am Grateful for this year

I have a particular tune in my head lately and it involves all my favorite things. You know the song, the one with girls in white dresses and blue satin sashes. This is the song I turn to remind me of simple pleasure and things to be appreciated. This year, I have added Jeff’s Rotary family to long list of what I am grateful for. Why? Because I am grateful that although we may not know each other personally, each week some of you read this article and get to know the challenges that a spouse of the current President has. Most of my articles have been about getting everyone involved and cheering everyone on, which I am happy to do. Through this process I have also gotten to know many of you.

I am grateful for the opportunity to learn about projects from other clubs and happy to be asked to help. Jeff’s Rotary family have allowed me to tag along and this year, I am happy they let me say thank you.

Avenues of Service:

Margarida Eidson passed around the sign up sheet to make donations for the Military Families we will be sponsoring for the Holidays.

Judy Hoag asked the club to make one last push to sell poinsettias. We are about 200 cases behind last year.

Ashley Pope asked for volunteers to man the Wine and Beer concession for the Thomas Fire Concert at Libby Bowl on December 1st.

Alison Thompson announced to the club that she is leaving Lindsay and Company to start her own firm!

Margarida Eidson conducted the raffle and our lucky winner was Bill Crookston.
