Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

Greetings Rotarians of Ventura East. Last weeks meeting was a very informative and educational meeting. We were joined by Zoomers Emily, Jeff Hata and Amber Stevens. Sharon Daly was there to great our attendees, and Dick Gallagher led us in the Salute to the flag. An announcement was made about Harriett Clune having a recent trip to the hospital. She had a case of E.coli, and a Staph infection. Fortunately, Dr. Rich Stewart was able to make House Calls and administer the antibiotics to her. Glad to hear that she is feeling better.

After lunch, Jeff Burgh gave us our inspirational message reminding us of the important role that the Hispanic Americans played in our country’s development. Rich Stewart followed by selling raffle tickets for a gift card to Eddy's Grill donated by Ashley Pope. We were reminded that October is Polio Awareness month and the Rotary club of Ventura Downtown will be having a fundraiser for Polio which they have asked us to be partners in. The BBQ dinner will next Tuesday evening October 26^th, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Admission is $40.00 per person or $70.00 per couple. Please contact me if you are interested in attending.

The Rotary Club of Santa Paula is conducting its annual Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser every Saturday and Sunday thru the end of October. They have requested volunteers from our club to work on any of the remaining weekends. Please contact me to schedule a time slot.

Joe Strohman conducted a Member Interview with Joe Bova and we all learned a lot about his life, family, and carrier. For any of us that were not aware, besides their first son, Joe and his wife are the proud parents of quintuplets which were featured on, among other places, Good Morning America, which can be seen by googling “Ventura Quintuplets”. Joe B. continues to work in our school district to help make it the strong and successful system that it is and envied by others. Thank you Joe and Joe. This Thursday, the 21^st, the club will be dark as we will have our social at Peirano’s, located at 204 East Main St. The fun starts at 5:30pm.

Rich Stewart was selling raffle tickets $50 gift card to Trader Joe’s.

October is Polio Awareness month.

Margarida Eidson spoke about Poinsettia sales. Please keep Margarida informed on how many cases you’ve sold. We will also be sending out a list of past people you’ve sold to Poinsettia’s too to contact.

The Santa Paula Rotary Club is looking for volunteers to help with the Pumpkin Patch weekends in October.
