Rotary Committees at Work
We needed a committee to review our Catering Contract and to ask for bids for the coming year.  When I asked for help on this project, Carolyn Diacos stepped right up and agreed to chair the committee.  She has been a member for at least a few months!  Her committee members all stepped up to help out:  Margarida Eidson, Kris Hansen, Jeff Hata, Tobias Hildebrand, John Masterson, Sam Marsh, Kathy McGee, Rich Stewart, Midge Stork, Tom Swan, Vance Thompson and Harriet Clune.

Caterers were called and invited to submit a proposal.  Carolyn provided them all with a list of our requirements, meeting times, our current price for lunches, etc.  Four responded, including our current caterer.  We received 4 proposals.  They were ranked by price based on 40 lunches so we could compare.  A spread sheet was provided for everyone.  Then the committee held two tastings of food from the caterers and voted for the one they liked best.  After consideration of food quality and cost, a new caterer was chosen with a unanimous vote.

Food Affairs by Stacy was the choice!  She will begin her service by November 16.  Our lunch prices will remain the same as they have been.

A big thank you goes out to all the members who served on the committee.  You are greatly appreciated!  (As are your taste buds!)

Meeting October 26, 2017
Bob Noville led us in the Flag Salute.

Our Inspirational Message was given by Tobias Hildebrand.

Guests and visiting Rotarians were introduced by Bill Spellman.

We had two visiting Rotarians today who are also current Presidents. Visiting from the Rotary Club of Ventura-South was President Bob Davis and from the Rotary Club of Camarillo was President Bob Harrell.

Guest of Jeff Hata was Tom Hilton and guests of Jim Emch was his grandson Beckett and granddaughter Ellis.

President Harriet thanked Rich Stewart for greeting and Jordan Eller for taking attendance.

Midge Stork announced that our opportunity drawing was a $50 gift card to Target donated by Laura Shannon.

John Borneman gave our joke of the day and then led us in our song of the day.

Bob Davis thanked us for allowing Ventura-South to come to Nightmare on the Hill. President Harriet presented Bob Davis with a check for our trivia team who will be competing in the Ventura-South Trivia Challenge on November 15th.

Avenues of Service:
Jeff Hata told us what time to arrive for various work shifts at Nightmare on the Hill.

Melody O'Leary-Namikas said that she had her sponsorship tickets to give away.

Margarida Eidson said that the City would be at the Pavilion from 6 - 8 to talk about City redistricting.

Tom Hashbarger said that our Veteran's Day Celebration is coming on November 9th. If you are a veteran, please sign up and include the branch of the military you served in.

Bob Harrell let us know that Atlas Elementary was hit with big budget cuts. The students raised about $9,000 and they need $20,000 for the programs that were affected. It appears that the District can use the funds that the students raised for whatever the district deems necessary so Bob has started a non-profit to protect the students funds so the district can't have access.

President Harriet gave one last appeal to members to sell tickets to Nightmare on the Hill.

Happy $'s: Jeff Hata, Harriet Clune, Kris Hansen, Tobias Hildebrand, Bob Harrell and Midge Stork.

Midge conducted the raffle and our lucky winner was Bill Gray.
News from Rotary International
When we introduced Rotary Club Central in 2012, it revolutionized goal tracking and planning for clubs and districts — no more filling out paper club-planning forms or passing along boxes of historical club information every time a new leader took office. Rotary Club Central offered clubs and districts a quantifiable way to begin measuring local and global impact, specifically membership initiatives, service activities, and Rotary Foundation giving. But as with any technological advancement, in a few short years, Rotary Club Central began to show its age, and Rotarians took notice. They...

At its January 2017 meeting, the Rotary International Board of Directors adopted a new zone structure for Rotary clubs. Rotary bylaws require the Board to complete a comprehensive review of the 34 Rotary zones no less often than every eight years to ensure that each zone has an approximately equal number of Rotarians. The Board’s previous review of the zones occurred in 2008. The Board earlier approved the creation of three regional workgroups to develop rezoning proposals for Asia, Europe/Africa, and the Americas. These workgroups comprised one representative (either a current director,...

Through The Rotary Foundation, Rotary members have supported thousands of projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, save mothers and children, support education, and grow local economies. We’ve also led the fight to eradicate polio worldwide. As part of our celebration of the Foundation’s centennial, we’re honoring 20 global grant projects with special recognition. Learn more about the projects using our interactive map.

The Atlanta Host Organization Committee is offering some good old-fashioned Southern hospitality at the Rotary International Convention from 10 to 14 June. It has planned a wide range of activities featuring everything from good food and music to inspiring tours of local landmarks. If it’s your first convention, these events are chances to meet fellow Rotarians from around the world, and if you’re an experienced convention goer, you can catch up with old friends. Hall of Fame baseball player Hank Aaron will host Rotarians for a “Strike Out Polio” night at the new SunTrust Park, where you’ll...

When Teguest Yilma helped found the Rotary Club of Addis Ababa Entoto in 2002, she thought polio had already been eradicated from most of the world. But while Ethiopia had been free of the disease, Yilma was shocked to learn that new cases had started cropping up in surrounding countries such as Somalia. “I was thinking, it’s not possible, we can’t be free if the countries around us are not free,” she says. Yilma, the managing editor of Capital, Ethiopia’s largest English weekly newspaper, has brought a journalist’s skills to the fight against polio. She became vice chair of the Ethiopia...
