Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian social organization comprising local business, civic and professional leaders. We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to solve community and global problems with service projects. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools
Internationally we support a medical project in Ethiopia and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community. Use your professional skills and talents to make a difference.

I want to offer a special thanks to Past President, Jeff Burgh. Jeff, you did a great job, and we appreciate all of your efforts. I also want to acknowledge Jeff Hata, who does a wonderful job on the weekly Breeze.

I will be the acting president for the Fall Season and I am looking forward to the many activities that we have on the calendar. This Thursday, VC Animal Services will present a program to the club. I am sure that it will be interesting and informative. It’s a great time to bring a guest!

Be sure to keep your calendar open on October 8 th for the Family Farm Fest at Sa’aliyas Ranch @ Pacific High School. Our club will be helping the school district with this event. Joe Bova will provide us with further information.

On 10/13 our own Dawn Knowles will be the program to share her recent experiences in Croatia and Slovenia. That same evening is the Taste of Ventura event (5:00-7:30) @ The Museum of Ventura County. On 10/20 we will have a field trip to Ventura College followed by a social at Rincon Brewery. I am sure that all these events will be most enjoyable.

Future dates to remember are the 11/17 social event at Rum Fish and Vino, 11/18-20, The District Conference and Foundation Gala in Santa Barbara and our Christmas Party on 12/15.

Meeting September 29, 2022

President Tim Hughes stood in for President Jeff this week!

Our Flag Salute was led by Bill Spellman

President Tim introduced guests and visiting Rotarians.

Guest of the Club was soon to be new member Abby Hanoch, guests of Margarida Edison was Derrick Eidson, Jim Nicoll and Kristen Anderson. Visiting us for the second time was Charles Ferguson, guest of Sharon Daly was Kevin Daly, guests of Joe Bova were Rene Rickard and Karrie Carey and visiting Rotarians from the Next Gen Rotary Club were Andy Conli and Matt Spiker.

Opportunity drawing was donated by Carin Kally $50 gift card to Wood Ranch

Upcoming programs are Ventura County Animal Services, Dawn Knowles will be speaking about her recent trip to Croatia and a field trip to Ventura College.

Downtown Club will be doing a Polio event. 10/23 at Ventura College Theater Patio. Food by Peirano’s

Bruce McGee introduced Andy & Matt from NextGen Rotary club in Westlake.

They are putting together an event in Downtown Ventura “Crawloween” if you are interested we can go online.

Ashley Pope passed around the sign up sheet for Taste.

Margarida Eidson spoke about the Love Ventura service project at the YMCA this Saturday.

The District Conference is coming in November. Come up on Friday if you can’t make the whole conference.

President Jeff rang the bell and welcomed everyone to out meeting.

Bruce McGee gave us an RI Foundation update.

Joe Bova spoke about the Family Fun Fest at Rancho Sa’ aliya Farm on October 8^th from 10:00 – 3:00. There will be opportunities for club members to volunteer.

Margarida Eidson reminded us that on October 1^st there is the Love Ventura event. We will be doing clean up at the YMCA from 3:00 – 6:00.

District Conference is coming to Ventura this October. More details to follow…

October 13^th is Taste of Ventura. We have tickets for $25.00 per ticket.

Margarida Eidson let us know that the Club Foundation is donating $1,000 to the Brain Injury Function to honor Midge Stork.

Margarida Eidson presented the club with a patch for being a silver club last year.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Olena Morhun fled with three of her children and made her way to Puławy, Poland. There they were welcomed by Krystyna Wilczyńska-Ciemięga, one of many Rotary members who have opened their homes to refugees.
