We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

We have had a very busy first half of the 2017-2018 Rotary Year. From July 1 through December 31, 2017, we accomplished a lot of good things. We certainly had some good social events, a nice Christmas Party at the Channel Islands Yacht Club, a BBQ at Limoneira, Girls’ Night Out, reception for Govenor John Weiss with the other two Ventura Clubs at the Ventura Yacht Club, Trivia Night at Garman’s Pub in Santa Paula and a fun time decorating the Rotary Rose Parade Float that garnered the Princess Trophy!

Two fundraisers were held: Nightmare on the Hill and Poinsettia Plant Sales. These provide important funding for our projects.

This year we have tried to concentrate on “Mini” Moments of Service in our community as well as our major projects. For the major ones, we supported the YMCA Operation Splash for $6000, the GoCare project in Nicaragua that is entering the third year of our Rotary International Grant (total was about $300,000.), over $2400 for the Mossy Foot project in Ethiopia covering medical needs, the Ventura Botanical Gardens for an additional $25,000 to total $50,000 over two years and we sponsored the all-city July 4^th Push-em Pull-em Parade with thousands of participants.

Our Mini opportunities were small but powerful. Several members loaded books for Friends of the Library Sale prior to the opening of the new Hill Street Library, we had an entry in the Fair Parade, we participated with other clubs in the Back Pack Project, contributing $2500., supported the YMCA Back- To-School Bash, supported the Rotaract Fundraising Project for their build in Mexico, participated in the United Day of Caring with help at the Beach Cleanup, blankets for the elderly, work at a homeless community, worked at the District 5240 Conference, helped drive Rotarians to the Ventura Botanical Gardens during the District Conference, donated $1650 to Rotaract for their build, supported Rotary Ventura South Trivia Contest with a team, distributed food and supplies to victims of the Thomas Fire, supported food share, rang bells for the Salvation Army at Christmas, donated canned food for a Holiday Can Tree and bought gifts for Military Families at Christmas time.

Hats off to all of you good hearted Rotarians who worked so hard to serve our community and our neighbors in 2017. Our community has been through some tough times with the fires and damage and losses during December. It feels good to help. Let’s keep our Rotary values and continue to be active in our community and around the world. Do good, one person at a time. Ventura Strong!

We were led in the Salute to the Flag by Laura Shannon.

Bill Crookston delivered our Inspirational Message.

Judy Hoag introduced guests and visiting Rotarians. Guest of Margarida Eidson was Dawn Rosin and visiting us from Salt Lake City, Utah was former member Tom Shilton.

Midge Stork announced that our opportunity drawing prize was a $50 gift card to Urbane Cafe graciously donated by Tom Swan.

Vance Thompson gave our joke for the day followed by John Borneman who led us in our song of the day.

President Harriet passed around the sign up sheet for our tree planting day on March 10th.

Husam Hishmeh spoke about the City Impact Golf Tournament on April 30th at Spanish Hills.

Bill Spellman let us know that all of our RYLA candidates are registered and ready to go.

Kris Hansen spoke about membership. All of our club members should look at how we all benefit from Rotary and share with others.

Rich Stewart let us all know that Pete Gallagher is at Treacy Villa and encouraged everyone to go visit Pete when they get a chance.

Bill Gray gave a report on our club foundation. The Foundation had a 22.24% return last year and is at about $2.75 million now. The goal is to get to $3 million and have cash in the accounts to be able to fund 3 years worth of scholarships. We will be allocating $50,000 for scholarships this year.

We have about $1,300 to donate to fire victims. If you know of someone who needs help, please let Bill Gray know.

Jeff Hata let the incoming board members know that March 10th is the District Assembly and if you are new to the board or your Avenue of Service, you are highly encouraged to attend. Also, May 19th will be the incoming Board Retreat. The Retreat will be from 10:00 - 1:00 with a club social immediately following from 1:00 - 4:00.

Melody O'Leary-Namikas will be leading a group to do a clean-up at Serra Cross this Saturday. Meet at 10:00 behind City Hall.

President Harriet spoke about the monthly survey results and also discussed the list of activities that our club has been involved with so far this year.
