Rotary Club of Ventura-East
Elevator Speech
 
We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.
 
We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.
 
We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:
  • Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
  • Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
  • Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
  • Promote literacy and career guidance in schools
 
Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.
 
The Rotary Club of  Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

It was wonderful to hear from Caroline Prijatel-Sutton from the Coalition for Family Harmony that provides wonderful services to Domestic Violence victims. Please check their website https://thecoalition.org/
 
If you would like to donate they are looking for women’s clothing and twin bed sheets.
 
Cypress Place send us some great pictures of their residents with our donated Poinsettias. It is great to see their smiles.
 
Toys will be delivered on Thursday to the Ventura County Fire Department at the Collection for the Spark of Love, Toys will go to Ventura County kids in need.
 
This week December 17th 6:00PM our first Virtual Wine and Cheese Christmas party and White Elephant gift exchange. RSVP to Margarida to attend an evening of fun with your Rotary family. (check your email last Tuesday for the details).
 
Saturday our volunteers will be Bell Ringers for the Salvation Army. We will be at Ralphs from 10 to 6pm. Thank you Amber for organizing it and Thank you to our Bell Ringers Todd, Sharon, Laura, Rich and Harriet, Tom, Cal and Jeff B.

Meeting December 3, 2020
Cal Magro led us in the Flag Salute today.
 
Our speaker was Ventura Fire Chief David Endaya.

Opportunity drawing was from Todd Juvonen. $50 gift card to Peking Restaurant.
 
Roy reported that we sold our poinsettia plants. We ordered 25 more so we will deliver about 300!
 
Amber Stevens reminded us that next Wednesday is the Kids and Families Together event to help the set up for their event.
 
Sharon Daly reports that the problems continue in Ethiopia.
 
Ashley Pope  has the 4 Way Test information from the District. Joe Strhoman has conducted this and will do so again this year.
Next Interact meeting will be December 15th.
 
Bruce McGee said membership committee would be reconvening in January.
 
Joe Strohman let us know that the Military Collaborative is not doing their family support this year. We will instead be support Spark of Love, we will be adopting a family from the YMCA, and we will be donating toys to the Family Justice Center.
 
FoodShare at Oxnard College Park on December 16th from 2 – 5. Email Joe Strohman if you would like to help out.
