Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

What an amazing performance by Anne DeMaria from the Rubicon. Even on Zoom we can enjoy wonderful theater performances. Beverly Ward from the Rubicon was a great presenter on all that is going on with them. I am looking forward to attending Music of the Knights on September 9^th. Let me know if you would like to attend. If we buy 20 tickets, they will be discounted $20; if we buy 30 tickets the discount will be $25. Check out their website at www.rubicontheatre.org.

Thank you, Jeff Burgh, for the update on the Ventura County restrictions and grants.

Unfortunately, we ran out of time to do our “Joe Strohman Rotary Spotlights” with Kathy McGee so we moved it to August 13^th.

Thank you also to Sharon Daly for volunteering to help at the last Thursday Takeaway Dinners.

This week we will have District Governor Deb Linden Zooming with us. I look forward to hearing what other groups are working on and how they are dealing with Covid.

President Margarida gave the menu for this evening. Beef stew with buttermilk biscuits, green salad and spiced cake!

Announcements:

President Margarida had Rotary Masks for sale for $10. If you would like some, let President Margarida know.

Opportunity drawing was donated by Laura Shannon today. It was a $50 gift card to Brophy Brothers.

Youth Service - Ashley Pope did not have any updates at this time. We are waiting for principle at Buena to get back to her.

International Service - Sharon Daly reported that the internet is sporadically being turned on in Ethiopia and there is a lot of rain at this time.

Vocational Service - Joe Strohman is trying to get Ericka our nursing scholarship winner on soon.

Our program today was Tim Hughes and our returning scholarship recipients.

Joe Strohman interviewed Jim Word today as our Rotary Spotlight.

President Margarida conducted the raffle and our lucky winner was Judy Hoag!!!!

Starting soon there will be 2 menus for Thursday dinner so you will have a choice. Watch for Margarida’s emails.
