We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.
We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.
We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:
Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools
Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.
The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.
As I end my Rotary year and sit down to write my last President’s Message, I can’t help but think of what could have been, the opportunities lost. The missed Third Thursday Night’s out with friends, our big dinner and dance gala, the charity walks, the puzzle challenge, and the list goes on. I begin to feel sad, but then I remember the opportunities found, our weekly Thursday night dinners, the virtual walks, the scholarships, and the thousands of dollars donated to various nonprofits. Rotary Service Continues.
We started this year with the goal of making an impact within our community, and I believe we have, even during these challenging times. We’ve gone from meeting in person at the Pavilion to meeting virtually via Zoom, but still we impacted our community, still we served others. Rotary Service Continues.
We’ve lost some friends during this year, too many in my opinion, but we’ve also made new friends, and in making new friends we honor those we’ve lost. Rotary Service Continues.
I may be coming to the end of my Rotary year, but at the same time Margarida is beginning her year, and thus we carry on. I would like to thank everyone for your support, friendship, and dedication to Rotary. I know you’d agree with me when I say to Margarida, “I am here to serve, to support you and your leadership”. I look forward to the Rotary Year before us. Rotary Service Continues.

Visiting today was Joe Bova from the Ventura Unified School District who has been working to set up the graduation ceremonies for the High Schools at City Hall.
Special guest today Sora, thanked the club for hosting her this year. She will be leaving for Japan tomorrow.
Next week our program will be Santa Paula Rotarian, Caitlin Berringer, speaking about Kids N Families Together.

The following students are recipients of the Rotary Club of Ventura-East Scholarships for 2020. This year we gave $100,000 in scholarships thanks to the generosity of past and current club members.
Major Donors The Rotary Club of Ventura-East scholarships are made possible by the many contributions from club members, the Rotary Club of Ventura-East Foundation, Inc. (the “Foundation”) and the following major donors.
Robert “Bob” Beckwith joined the Rotary Club of Ventura-East in 1972 and was the longtime owner of California Office Equipment in Ventura. A World War II veteran, Bob bequeathed $1.9 Million to the Foundation to provide scholarships to students. Bob’s extraordinary gift will allow students to receive scholarships for generations to come.
Eric Nicolet joined Rotary in 1958 and was President of two Rotary Clubs including the Rotary Club of Ventura-East in 1979-80. Eric was a B-24 Liberator pilot in the Italian and North Africa Theaters during World War II. A lifelong educator, Eric was responsible for interviewing and hiring hundreds of faculty members at Ventura College over the years. He was also one of the founding members of the Ventura College Foundation.
Devere (“Pete”) and Arlene (“Tootie”) Gallagher. Pete was a Founding Member of the Rotary Club of Ventura-East in 1963. Pete and Tootie operated an automobile gas and service station in Ventura for decades and were anchors of the club. Through their generosity the club and the Foundation received funds dedicated to college scholarships.
Neal Cummins joined Rotary in 1957. Neil was a licensed civil engineer and served many years as an Executive Consultant for religious organizations including the Presbyterian Church. Neal recognized many charitable organizations upon his death including the Rotary Club of Ventura East.
