Dear Rotarians and Friends,

I hope you all enjoyed the program on Polio Plus last week.  It is a big part of what Rotary is and it is important to see this through to total eradication.  That being said, I hope you will join me at the Crowne Plaza next Tuesday, October 24, World Polio Day for a 50’s themed polio fundraiser being hosted by Rotary Club of Ventura.  The flyer should be here in the Breeze.  RSVP by text to Jessica (619) 634-5501 and pay at the door so we can keep track of our Club’s participation.

This week we will have our 3rd Thursday social at The Cave, which is located inside the Ventura Wine Co at 4435 McGrath St, in the business park along Telephone Rd.  If you haven’t signed up and want to join in or bring a guest,  please let me know ASAP.  You will purchase a card that you put some $ on to pour yourself some wine from their amazing selection. There are other beverages available.  The food has rave reviews.  I’m really looking forward to this.

After looking into the Rose Parade Decorating schedule, we have determined that we cannot coordinate transportation for a group or make a group reservation as dates are filling.  We recommend that interested members talk to each other and sign up and carpool down to Irwindale, where the Phoenix  floats are being assembled. Day shifts are from 8-4. The shifts are filling. (currently openings for December 26, 27) You can check it out and sign up on rotaryfloat.org.  If you go to “see who’s going” you will see the complete availability.  There is a $15 cost to cover the t-shirt and lunch. Night shifts are currently available all week.  The shift is 8 hours and cannot be split into 4 hour shifts.  It would be fun to have other clubs join in and get a bus and driver donated, so there’s a plan for next year.

One more thing: Poinsettia season is almost here!! We will be emailing this year’s flyer and order form soon.  Get ready to call your friends and neighbors.  We will be donating plants to Cypress Place again this year, so think about adding one donated case to your own order.  We need about 30 donated.

In Memorium: Rafael Canton
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Rafael Canton, M.D. Rafa passed away on September 30th at the age of 102.

Rafa joined the Rotary Club of Ventura-East on February 1, 1974 and served as President for the Rotary year 1978-79. We will always remember Rafa for his happy heart. Rafa believed that laughter was the best medicine and one thing you could be sure of was when Rafa did our Inspiration, we were in for at least a minute of laughter!
