Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

Happy NEW YEAR!

What a wonderful Holiday Season. I hope you all enjoyed time with your family. I was a happy Mom, all my 4 boys came home. There was a lot of cooking, baking and games.

I cannot believe 6 months have passed in my presidency. It has been busy and lots of fun even though we are on Zoom.

We worked on so many different events and brought Rotary to so many in our community.

This year with the Poinsettia fundraiser we also collected donations to be able to deliver a Poinsettia Plant to every resident of Cypress Place and bring smiles to lonely people.

We collected 2 large boxes of toys that we delivered to the Fire Department Spark of Love Program, to be distributed to children in Ventura County.

We rang the bell for the Salvation Army and collected a full kettle of money.

We worked at the Food Share distribution center and passed out many meals to those in need.

Many of our members also delivered meals every Thursday to fellow Rotarians and elders staying at home.

We had game nights where we played Jeopardy, and Bingo.

And now we will continue the fun, learning, and serving in 2021 with:

January 7^th Ashley Bautista – from Ventura County with an opportunity to help the community by delivering food to the elderly on Mondays and Thursdays
January 14^th – Wade Namura – our Past District Governor and current Carpinteria Mayor
January 21^st – Spencer Burke – National Park Service
January 28^th – Darin Schindler Ventura Police Chief
February 4^th – Derek Poultney – Ventura Land Trust

I hope you join me at our regular meetings every Thursday at noon via Zoom and participate in the community service events we plan to hold.

The residents from Cypress Place Senior Living wanted to reach out and give us a "BIG" Thank You for the Poinsettias that were delivered to all of the residents. They appreciated the poinsettias very much and sent a few pictures for us to enjoy!

Meeting December 10, 2020

Husam Hishmeh led us in the Flag Salute today.

Visiting Rotarian today was Saraubh Bajaj President of Ventura Downtown and guest of the club was Joe Bova.

Kathy McGee gave our Inspirational Message.

Roy Valdez let us know that we sold out of Poinsettias. Thank you to everyone who came out to help deliver. Sold 295 cases. Net about $6,500 this year!

Ashley Pope said Interact will be meeting next week and Margarida will be speaking about RYLA

Joe Strohman let us know we need to Directors for the Foundation Board. Foundation is at $3.3 million.

Vocational Service – Toy drive is ongoing. Ventura Family Justice Center is virtual. Order through Amazon and deliver to them.

YMCA we adopted a family and we are also donating to Spark of Love.

Saurabh Bajaj is doing a fundraiser, Coffee Table book illustrated by local photographers. You can order online at VenturaRotary.org.
