Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

My wife informed me Saturday that Tom Hashbarger had passed away earlier that morning, surrounded by his family. Tom was not only a fellow Rotarian but a family friend of over 50 years, his smiling face will truly be missed by my wife and I. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Cynthia and the entire Hashbarger Family. Tom belonged to our Club for over 31 years and was Club President in 1995-96. Over his 31 years of Rotary service he was an active member of our Club, participating in many of our Club activities. Always with a smile on his face and a kind word on his lips. Please take a few minutes out of your day to remember Tom, Cynthia, and their family.

I am sorry I missed last weeks meeting, I hear Monica provided a very informative update on Food Share’s actions to help those in need. How wonderful to see the fruits or our donation go to help so many during this time of pandemic. This week we have another wonderful program scheduled, Amy Towner the CEO of the VCMC Health Care Foundation will be our guest. Amy will be providing our Club with an update on the VCMC Ronald McDonald Kids Room and Walk for Kids, which our Club has participated in the past two years. I am sure you’re also aware our Club just donated an additional $2,000 to the Ronald McDonald Kids Room to help with the program. Click the Zoom link below on Thursday, maybe even invite a friend!

Don’t forget dinner Thursday night – Get your meal count to me by noon Thursday, for your 5-6pm pick-up. I know my wife and I can’t wait. 😊

Meeting May 14, 2020

President Jeff gave our Inspirational Message.

Husam Hishmeh spoke about John Borneman. Other members gave their memories of John.

President Jeff was notified that the Push-em Pull-em has been canceled for this year.

Next week PE Margarida will be leading our meeting. Monica White from FoodShare will be our program.

Dinner tonight is mouthwatering creamy white chicken, roasted vegetables…

Joe Strohman let us know that Ericka Mendez was awarded the Bob Pazen Vocationhal Scholarship and will be taking the RN test! She will be working at CMH starting in the fall!

Scholarship committee is working hard to go through the applications. 95% finalized on who will be awarded scholarships. About 15-20 previous awardees have also applied.

Rich Stewart reported that Sora will be returning to Japan on June 12^th.
