Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving with lots of delicious food and family.

Thank you to all who purchased a pie from the Poinsettia Pavilion. You help our event center and hopefully shared the delicious pie with someone you love.

Thank you to all the Christmas card writers (Carin Kelly, Sharon Daly, Kathy McGee, and Mary Jackson) for the beautiful messages to be delivered along with a poinsettia to each resident at the Cypress Place.

The Poinsettias will be delivered on Thursday to the Poinsettia Pavilion and we are planning the deliveries on Saturday and Monday. Look for an email from Roy Valdez.

This week we will hear from our Ventura Fire Chief David Endaya.

Meeting November 12, 2020

We were led in the Flag Salute today by Tom Swan.

Presidents Announcements

11/19 – Meeting will be at 6:30 pm. Ken Berman will be speaking about Millenials

Opportunity drawing was $50 cash donated by Laura Shannon

Roy Valdez spoke about Poinsettias. Orders are trickling in now. We have a total of 73 cases ordered so far. We have 500 cases on hold. We will start calling the list of past donors. We will deliver to residential on Saturday the 5^th and businesses on Monday the 7^th.

Mary Kay will be partnering with us to deliver product along with the Poinsettia delivery to Cypress Place.

Amber Stevens let us know that our Salvation Army Bell ringing date will be December 19^th at the Ralph’s on Victoria. We will need 8 one-hour slots. They will be by family.

Next week is Rotary Gratefulness week. We will pick 5 grocery stores in the area and recognize them. We will deliver doughnuts to the stores to recognize their employees.

December 9^th Kids and Families Together event.

Bruce McGee gave a Ronald McDonald House update. The Family Rooms will be finished by the end of this year. A benefactor just donated $500,000 to get the room fully financed. We have the construction costs and the first year of operations covered at this point!

Ashley Pope reported that Interact will be meeting 2 times a month.

Bruce McGee said that Joe Bova will be submitting an application for membership.

Sharon Daly asked to keep Ethiopia in our thoughts and prayers because the country is on the brink of Civil War.

Joe Strohman let us know that President Margarida has connected with Spark of Love to donate to needy families during this season.

Joe is working on the 4 Way Test Essay contest. Employee of the Quarter is coming!

Brian Barber of Mission Fish was our speaker today.

Joe Strohman interviewed our Veteran’s Jeff Burgh & Bill Spellman.
