President's Message

We had our monthly meeting for the Ronald McDonald Family Room Walk and the committee is starting to take shape  and plans are starting to be firmed up. We should know very soon the exact date and location for the walk. It was very exciting to see so many Rotarians in the room eager to volunteer their time for this project and we even had a representative from the Junior Charity League with us! This project will surely be a huge community effort. Thank you to Bruce McGee for leading the charge and getting everyone organized!

Our program this week will be a craft talk with Bill Hicks interviewing Steve Harbison. Steve had a long career in the legal field and is now retired and living in Ventura. One of the things I wanted to do this year was for all of us to learn more about each other. That is the reason for the craft talks. Also, the Sip & Sees are a way for us to get to know each other in a more informal setting. While you may not want to put together a succulent pumpkin or do spice ornaments I encourage you to come out and just "Hang Out" and get to know other members of the club. We are working on a social for the last Thursday in January which will be painting on wine glasses. That should be pretty cool, but again, if painting isn't your thing just come out and socialize with us! I can tell you, I am the world's worst painter, but it's fun!

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East is your club so if there is something you would like to see us doing, please let me or a member of your board of directors know! The more input and the more ideas given to us the better it is for all of us.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.

NOT SO SILENT CORNER

I am not perfect….

I need to share something with you all, I am not perfect. This week as I was getting ready for the next Sip & See I realized why I don’t usually look forward to arts and crafts. I struggle. I struggle with not excelling and I struggle with looking silly. However, I find myself in situations where I am crafting and I am doing it with others. I do this because I love the camaraderie that always ensues. It isn’t about the finished product but about the journey. I get to struggle, and I get to be supported by my friends. Most importantly, I am reminded that as a community, we can do anything together.

So, having confessed this to you I also want to invite you to join in at the next Sip & See. We will be doing spiced ornaments. You will be able to play with Spices and hep us fill our community tree at SpiceTopia. Why? Because we all need to struggle together and lift each other up, not to mention because it is a glimpse into what we have planned for the Holiday Season. Come play and come grow with us! I guarantee, those that do will be glad they did!
