President's Message

This week will not be a normal week for us. Don't forget we will be meeting Wednesday evening with the Ventura Rotaract Club and our speaker will be Sylvia Whitlock. The first woman inducted into Rotary. We played a video earlier this year of a speech that Sylvia gave at PETS two years ago and I'm sure you will find her talk amazing! I am looking forward to her talk. It will also be good to have the Rotaract Club with us and get to know them a little better and welcome them to our club.
The kickoff for the Ronald McDonald Walk for Kids is this Thursday evening. The Walk is just a little over a month away. If you haven't signed up for our team, please do so. It's a $25 donation but the benefits to our community will be so much more. I would like to see a good representation from our club and have heard that the Rotary Club of Santa Paula is really rallying their community in a big way. Let's show some competitive spirit and show Santa Paula who we are!
Don't forget about the "Forty Days - Forty Items" challenge. Starting on March 6th we are challenging you to remove one item from your closet that you no longer use or wear. At the end of the forty days either donate the items to a non-profit of your choice or bring your bag to the club and we will donate the items to a non-profit who can use the items. I know Rosandra and I will be participating and I trust many of our club members will also.
Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase.
– Martin Luther King Jr.

March is Here!
So, March is here, and it just dawned on me that we have a month of 5ks and walks and hiking ahead of us. I’m a busy gal but considering what just happened with Dad, I must make time to take care of myself. So, anyone want to go for a walk? I normally would have a few takers for wine tasting but I want to challenge you all to join us for Ronald McDonald walk and have some fun. I know what you are thinking, but I can’t do this on my own. I need each of you to help me train.
Why the enthusiasm overload? My sweet sister reminded me that I will be 45 this year, ancient to some but just a baby to others. At first, I thought I should swim around the pier in August to celebrate the milestone, but I have never been in the ocean water, just my YMCA pool. I have a theory that I will be fine since our own Amber Stevens taught me to swim two years ago. I was swimming laps for about 45 minutes before the holiday break.  I’ll let you in on what I have discovered: I like being active and it calms my never-quiet mind. With all that has occurred, I have come to terms with the fact that as busy as we all are, we have to also make time to heal and go within. The Ventura Family YMCA is my go-to place for this. Did you know that there is Aqua Zumba on Saturday mornings and a yoga class? I can swim laps and get a class in all before 9 am most weekends. I’ve missed out on some classes lately due to work and I cringe when I hear myself say that I am too tired to go. Well, that stops now! Plus, I have to be able to run circles around my sister, who is turning 30 this year. I wonder if she will like me reminding her?
