Hello my fellow Rotarians. It was a great meeting last week. Thank you for all in attendance and on Zoom. The meeting started on time with Jeff Hata leading us in the Pledge to the Flag , and then Lunch with a short Break-out session for zoomers.  With a full agenda, the business part of the meeting started a bit early with Emily giving us a very inspirational talk.

 

Margarida gave us a report on Sharon Daily’s recovery and the Food Train. She also reported on her organization of our outing to Ojai on Sunday with a play directed by our own Bill Spelman, and dinner afterwards. Rich and Harriet volunteered to check out the conditions of the Ojai play that our club will be ushering. Jeff Burgh explained the Backpack Project that we are supporting this year and has asked for volunteers to help. Remember that many hands mean light work Lets all support Jeff with this.

 

Joe Strohman led the presentation of the 4 Nursing Scholarships that were presented with each recipient, introduced by Husam Hishmeh, Carin Kally, Jim Word, and Todd Juvonen, giving us their own story as to how the scholarships helped them.   We then had guest speakers Gerry Pantoja and Annie King of the Ventura College Foundation give us a very interesting and informative talk about the foundation that gives in excess of $ 650,000.00 in scholarships. One of the more interesting facts is that the students receiving these combined scholarships have a greater graduating rate than those without. The meeting concluded with everyone standing and reciting The 4 Way Test.

 

On Sunday, 11 members and spouses joined Bill and his wife for a great play in Ojai and followed it up with a great lunch and fellowship. Thank you Bill.
