Elevator Speech

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian social organization comprising local business, civic and professional leaders. We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to solve community and global problems with service projects. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools
Internationally we support a medical project in Ethiopia and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community. Use your professional skills and talents to make a difference.

Multiple Scholarships of up to $7,500.00 will be awarded.

Approximately $125,000.00 will be awarded.

Available to graduating VUSD seniors who are attending two or four year colleges or vocational & technical schools. Prior scholarship recipients may re-apply.

Hello fellow Rotarians and friends of Ventura East. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving with your friends and families. Eating like we haven’t eaten for days, and celebrating with a chance to reflect on our blessings and achievements over the past year, and remember with fond memories those that we have lost. I don’t know how it is in your home, but in ours, Thanksgiving Day, gives us permission to watch almost nothing but The Hallmark Channel for our yearly fix of Christmas movies. All of these trying to remind us how important friends and family are.

I hope you all had a chance to give our Poinsettia Plant Fundraiser a “Pitch”. We still have a few more cases to sell. Rather than trying to fight the stores searching for something to buy your neighbors, these make a great side gift. Remembering that there is a gift for the most cases sold, the entire club wins with every case sold. This Thursday’s meeting, December 2^nd, we will not have a program, so that we can begin to make deliveries of our plants. Remember that “Many Hands Make Light Work”. For those of you that can help, we are truly appreciative.

I’m feeling like a salesman today. I apologize for that, but part of that is trying to make life a bit easier for those around us.

Meeting November 11, 2021

Todd Juvonen led us in the Flag Salute

Guest of Jeff was Issac Hernandez guest of Margarida Eidson was Steve Eidson and guest of Joe Strohman was Olivia Strohman.

Tim Hughes gave our Inspirational Message.

Tim Hughes announced that the scholarship applications are available on the club website.

Bruce McGee spoke about the RI Foundation. Vance Thompson, Todd Juvonen, Margarida Eidson, Dick Gallagher, President Cal and Dave Anderson were presented with Paul Harris Fellows.

President Cal passed around sign up sheets for Club Duties, Bell Ringing and Holiday party.

This weeks opportunity drawing was gift cards for Café Ficelle and Olive Ventura

The Poinsettia Pavilion is doing a pie fundraiser for Thanksgiving. Information is on the Club website.

Margarida Eidson spoke about the Poinsettia Fundraiser.

Margarida Eidson also spoke about our Christmas for Military Families. We need 5 volunteers to shop.

Monday Board meeting at Jeff Burgh’s office

Olivia Strohman spoke about Ventura Rotaract. If you would like to donate for the Kids Christmas Party at City Center, please let Olivia or Joe Strohman know. City Center has about 52 kids that need to be shopped for.

Joint meeting with the other 2 Ventura Rotary Clubs on December 30^th.

For our program today, Joe Strohman interviewed the veteran’s in our club.
