  • Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

Jeff Burgh announced that our opportunity drawing prize was a gift card to Larson's.

President Bruce recognized Pete Gallagher for his new wheelchair and Joe Strohman for wearing a tie today instead of a bow tie. Joe let President Bruce know that this was the second meeting in a row that he has worn a tie.

President Bruce thanked Joe Strohman for the great job Joe did in organizing the 4 Way Test Essay Contest.

Todd Juvonen gave our Inspirational Message followed by our joke of the week given by Jordan Eller.

Jordan Eller reminded us that scholarship interview are next Monday and Tuesday and that Jordan needs volunteers to chaperone those evenings. Judy & Colin Hoag volunteered for Monday and Alison Thompson will do Tuesday.

President Bruce asked for volunteers to fill out the duty roster for the remainder of the year or Michelle Cekov will just start volunteering you!

President Bruce thanked the people who scheduled our programs for the last year. President Bruce thought the program rotation worked out well. Bob Pazen will be scheduling programs for the 1st quarter of Husam's year.

President Bruce reminded us about the Push em Pull em parade on July 4th. This will be the 40th year we have organized this parade, please think about what we can do to get better PR and fundraising at this event.

The next board meeting will be June 2nd instead of June 1st.

Dave Anderson spoke about the Step Down dinner on June 12th at the Wedgewood Banquet Center from 6 - 9pm. Please sign up on the sign up sheets being passed around if you haven't done so online.

We had a visiting Rotarian today from Ventura-South, Nkosi Khumalo.

Jim Word gave us a few words about water. If you live in Santa Paula, Oxnard, Thousand Oaks or Westlake you will get State Water ... the rest of us are in big trouble. Lake Casitas is at 40% capacity and we will have to conserve another 30% this year. The really bad news is that we are halfway through an 8 year drought. 75% of Ventura County gets its water from the Colorado River or State Water.

To answer the question about desalination, it takes 14 years to get desal on line. Calleguas water is halfway through construction of a 30 mile brine line.

Midge Stork conducted the raffle and our winner was Jim Emch!!!

President Bruce asked everyone to take a Club Roster Information sheet and bring it back completed next week.

After a series of three earthquakes -- two in Japan and one in Ecuador -- killed hundreds of people, injured thousands, and caused billions of dollars in damage late last week, Rotary members in those regions have created disaster relief funds to help survivors. In Ecuador, the powerful 7.8-magnitude quake that struck Saturday night has killed more than 400 people, with 2,500 injured. Those figures are expected to rise. Rotary District 4400 established a service fund to raise money for relief efforts. Contact District Governor Manuel A. Nieto Jijon for information on how to donate. In Japan,...

Get live updates and vote totals from the Council on Legislation on Rotary.org beginning on 11 April. Representatives from Rotary clubs worldwide will gather in Chicago 10-15 April to consider changes to the policies that guide Rotary International and its member clubs.  Many of this year’s proposed changes are designed to increase membership by giving clubs greater flexibility in the timing and the nature of their meetings. Other proposals would amend membership requirements.

Interact clubs are making a positive difference in schools and communities around the world. Leaders of sponsor Rotary clubs and districts should make sure their Interact clubs get the recognition they deserve by verifying that they qualify for a Presidential Citation. If a sponsored club is not listed, submit the Interact Club Certification Form by 1 March. Then, verify by 15 April that your Interact clubs have qualified for the...
