Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

Happy February!!!

For everyone who made it out to the Social at Cask Alehouse last Thursday, thank you! I think everyone had fun and either painted their wine glasses or socialized and got caught up with each other. I know Rosandra and I had a good time and yes, we baked our glasses to set the paint. We have one more Fifth Thursday Social and we will be asking for ideas on what the club would like to do.

We are in the second half of the year and it seems we are busier then ever! We have work being done on the Ronald McDonald Walk scheduled for April 7th. We will be supporting the Downtown club with their 100 Year Birthday Celebration, the South club will be doing their Mardi Gras Party, the St. Patrick's Day Parade is coming quickly and we have D.G. Sandi's Stepdown and our Club Stepdown coming. Actually, that's quite a few events still left in this year!

This is also the time of year when our P.E. Jeff Burgh will be working on what's ahead in his year starting July 1st. Jeff will be at PETS, President Elect Training Seminar, this weekend. This is a training that is put on in every Rotary District in the world and you must go to a PETS before you can become President. I'm sure Jeff will return with many questions and will be asking some of you to help him with his year. I'm sure everyone who is asked will step up and do what they can to help Jeff be successful in 2019-2020!

Our speaker this week will be Amy Bailey, Executive Director of the Ventura Family YMCA. Amy will be speaking to us about what's new at the Y and how Operation Ventura is going.

Next week we will be hearing from Jeff McGreevey, with Trident Shield and the Oxnard Police Department. Jeff will be talking to us about what we can do to protect ourselves in the event we are in a situation involving an active assailant. These are both interesting programs and I hope you do not miss them.

NOT SO SILENT CORNER

My heart is full saying thank you

After each working 14-hour days, which is what most businesses work, Ashley, Jeff and I sat down last week and made Valentines for Non-Profits. You see, it was important to support our Sip & See and it was important to let the non-profit know that they are appreciated. I don’t have a chance to be creative at work so whenever I get a chance to let loose and craft, you bet I love it. The smell of construction paper and the touch of Elmer’s glue always makes me happy. As a kid, I loved Valentines day because of all the cheesy candy and the cards.

“Our heart is full of gratitude.”

“You leave paw prints on our heart with all that you do for Ventura!”

I could go on, but you get the point. We said thank you and frankly, I can’t wait to do it again.
