Rotary Club of Ventura-East
Elevator Speech
 
We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.
 
We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.
 
We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:
  • Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
  • Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
  • Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
  • Promote literacy and career guidance in schools
 
Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.
 
The Rotary Club of  Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

It was great to hear from Ronda Holden about the history of our Ventura Pier.
 
A great big Thank you to Roy and Adonis and their beautiful wives and kids for all the help decorating for the
Drive through Halloween event. (sorry I forgot to mention you last week).
 
Thank you to Ken and Allison for taking over the takeaway dinner operations last Thursday.
 
Mary Kay will be joining our Rotary Poinsettia donations and donating hand or foot cream along with a soft hand sanitizer with each Poinsettia delivery.
 
Keep selling Poinsettias and please consider asking if they would like to donate a plant or two ($10ea) for the residents at Cypress Place Senior Living.
 
This week we will hear from Oscar Hernandez from Mission Fish a nonprofit organization dedicated to taking veterans on fishing trips and much more…
 
We will also hear from Bill Spelman and Jeff Burgh our club military veterans being interviewed by Joe Strohman

Meeting November 5, 2020
We were led in the flag salute by Harriet Clune.
 
Visiting us today was Joe Bova from Ventura Unified School District.
 
Laura Shannon gave our Inspirational Message.
 
Presidents Announcements:
  • Thank you for everyone who came out to help with the drive through Trick or Treat.
  • Especially thank you to Ashley for organizing and everyone else who came out.
  • Virtual District Conference this the weekend. Bruce took a few moments to discuss the breakouts and topics. Saturday from 9 – 10 the RI PEN will be speaking, Jennifer Jones.
    • 11/12 – Veteran’s Day program & Mission Fish
    • 11/19 – Third Thursday Zoom meeting with Ken Berman speaking about millennials
    • 11/26 – Dark
    • 12/3 – Ventura Fire Chief David Endaya
  • We need sponsors for the opportunity drawing. Please let Sharon Daly know.
    • Cal donated a $50 gift card to somewhere for today.
  • Roy Valdez filled us in on Poinsettia sales. Sales are starting to pickup so things are looking pretty good right now.

Ashley Pope connected with Lainey from Interact. Interact will be starting monthly meetings on Zoom. First Tuesdays of month at noon.       
They want to start with a big buddies program and have been working with Key Club and Leo Club on other projects.
 
Bruce McGee membership is meeting every two weeks. Please invite people to our zoom meetings. Laying the foundation for a big membership push after the holidays.
 
Sharon Daly reported that the Ethiopian government has started allowing Mossy Foot to provide self help loans to people again.
 
Joe Strohman let us know he will be interviewing veteran’s next week and the Military Collaborative has cancelled Operation Snowflake so we won’t be doing that this year.
Ferguson Case… has been working with FoodShare and is looking into opportunities for the club.
 
Ronda Holden was our speaker today about Pier into the Future.
