2024 College Scholarship Applications

Multiple Scholarships up to $7,500.00 will be awarded.
Approximately $125,000.00 total will be awarded.

Available to graduating VUSD seniors who are attending two or four year colleges or vocational & technical schools.

College students who are prior recipients of a
Rotary Club of Ventura East scholarship may re-apply.

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Thank you to all the Hippies who joined with District Governor Marta Golding Brown for a groovy evening and some good vibes last week. Thank you to the committee and decorators. The bar and raffle proceeds will go to the Polio Plus fund. Nancy D’Atillio received her blue badge, so be sure to congratulate her this week.

The Beachside Bash is over but results are still being tallied. Thank you again to all the volunteers and organizers from Ventura- East!

This week will we hear from Wade Nomura about this year’s Rotary Rose Parade Float! It will be a great program to invite friends to the club. I hope we can get enough enthusiasm to sign up for a decorating day and make it an event!

It is with sadness that we share the news of Rafael Canton’s passing this week. His influence on the club will continue. For inspiration this week we will pass the microphone around for people to share a favorite memory. Rafa was 102.

October 12 — World Polio month, special presentation

October 14 (Saturday) – Sa’Aliyas Ranch Family Farm Fest, Pacific High School 10-3

October 26 – OFF SITE MEETING AT VENTURA HISTORY MUSEUM, NOON

Rotary Club Ventura – East

In Memorium: Rafael Canton

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Rafael Canton, M.D. Rafa passed away on September 30th at the age of 102.

Rafa joined the Rotary Club of Ventura-East on February 1, 1974 and served as President for the Rotary year 1978-79. We will always remember Rafa for his happy heart. Rafa believed that laughter was the best medicine and one thing you could be sure of was when Rafa did our Inspiration, we were in for at least a minute of laughter!

Rafa will be inurned with his late wife Jane later this month or early next month at Ivy Lawn Cemetery. We will keep you informed.

Meeting September 21, 2023

Joe Bova led us in the Flag Salute.

President Carin thanked Charles Ferguson for running the front desk, Steve Harbison for greeting and Margarida Eidson for taking attendance.

Guest of Jeff Burgh was Keith Taylor, Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Camarillo.

September 28^th is our 60^th anniversary party and District Governor’s visit. It will start at 6:00 pm. All bar proceeds for the evening will be donated to Polio Plus.

Mikyung Zdybowicz gave a presentation about her company, Jeden Bioscience.

Margarida Eidson and Bruce McGee reviewed what will happen on Saturday for the Beach Bash.

Bruce McGee asked everyone to invite past members to attend the 60^th Anniversary Party next Thursday.

Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian social organization comprising local business, civic and professional leaders. We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to solve community and global problems with service projects. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools
Internationally we support a medical project in Ethiopia and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community. Use your professional skills and talents to make a difference.
