Rotary Club of Ventura-East

Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprising of local business, civic and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical, nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and through that we are able to get things done in this community. Like:

Scholarships at 5 local high schools,
Interact Clubs at 3 local schools.
Support the YMCA, City Center, Ventura Botanical Gardens
Promote literacy and career guidance in schools

Internationally we support a huge project our club started called GoCare in Nicaragua and contribute to eliminating Polio worldwide.

The Rotary Club of Ventura-East meets Thursday noon to 1:30 at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. Come and learn more about Rotary's humanitarian service, high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will in this community.

Last week we were able to tour what is going to be the home for the Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Ventura County Medical Center on Loma Vista Rd. with Amy Towner, it was wonderful to see what a fantastic space it will be for our Pediatric cancer patient families.

On Saturday we dropped off our Club Foundation donation of $4,575.

This week our program will be with Matt Lavere – Our Ventura County Supervisor. I am looking forward to hearing from him.

The Ventura County moved to the Orange color in the VC covid restriction guidelines last Wednesday, and this allowed for more businesses to open, and life to start getting back normal once again. In the orange category the Pavilion can offer services at 50% capacity with modifications (in the room we previously met current 50% capacity is 35 guests). As the Covid infections number continues to slow down, VC predicts we will move into the Yellow color in the VC Covid restrictions guidelines in the end of April which would allow us to host events at 75% capacity.

I would like to schedule our 1^st back to live meeting for May 13^th in the large room of the Poinsettia Pavilion (current 50% capacity is 125 and 75% capacity will be 187).

We will still have the Zoom link connected to make sure any members can join virtually if they prefer.

We will continue with the FEED805 to collect food items for Food Share. I have lots of empty bags ready for you to fill them.

April 17^th – Rotary District 5240 Training. Virtual event where you may choose the training you would like to attend free of charge.

April 19^th – Board meeting at Topa Brewery on 4880 Colt St. in Ventura Virtual link available for those who prefer to join virtually.
April 22^nd – Angie Brinkhoff – VC Autism Society – Aut2Run
April 24^th and 25^th - Will be the virtual Aut2Run fundraiser for the Autism Society of Ventura County make sure you sign on to team Gavin

April 8^th we will be interviewing Bruce McGee.
We had about 50 pairs of socks donated to the Rotaract Sock it too me event! Good job everyone!

Bruce McGee announced that Oscar Hernandez is now an Honorary Member of the Club. Oscar will be taking care of our Social Media!

Jeff Burgh, Harriet Clune, Margarida Eidson, Cal Magro, Bill Gray have all earned Paul Harris awards.

Our speaker today was Banks Pecht speaking about MS.
