Dear Rotarians and Friends,
We had a full and fabulous meeting last week. We got an update from our scholarship recipient Hannah Dearman-So (2021) and presented a $1500 check to Patti Birmingham for the Boys and Girls Club summer scholarships. Sam Marsh provided the inspiration by sharing a phrase he starts with each morning and was inspired by the salutation on his grandfather’s Civil War letters home: “ It’s a fine day! “ I don’t know if it’s that positive attitude that keeps Sam going strong at 96, but it’s a great way to set the tone for the day.
Our Program Speaker and main event was Officer Mack Douglass, Emergency Services Manager for Ventura PD. So much good information on evacuation preparation and procedures, lessons from the Thomas Fire, progress going forward, and the importance of staying informed by signing up on VCAlert.org to receive texts during emergencies.
Continuing our theme of emergency preparedness, this week’s program will bring things down to the personal level of life saving using CPR and AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) Glenda Mahon is an EMT and provides certification classes throughout Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
Next week is the 3rd Thursday and Taste of Ventura is our Social at the History Museum on Main Street starting at 5 p.m.
