Wow! Wow! Wow! What w great week for The Rotary Club of Ventura East. So much has happened last week. Our meeting last week was almost in full attendance. It was so nice to see everyone that attended. A special thank you to Bob Novel for attending.
The meeting began with Margarida leading us in our salute to our flag, and then introduction of our guests. The business part of the meeting began early as we had so much happening. Todd gave us a great inspiration message reminding us of how many people we have helped just last year alone with our financial help. What might seem like a little means so much to so many.
Ashley reminded us of our upcoming fundraiser with The Autism Society next Sunday and encouraged us to support and bring friends. Bruce awarded Blue Badges to Adonis Campillo, Dawn Knowles, Joe Bova, and Oscar Hernandez.
Sam Marsh gave a Paul Harris award to Joe Bova, and then Bruce McGee awarded a Paul Harris to Steve Harbison and another to Husam Hishmeh.
Joe Strohman. reminded the club of how much we gave to the nursing students this year and then Adonis introduced one of our nursing student awardees. As a bonus, her young daughter won our $ 50.00 raffle, which will be put away for her college.
Next, our Deputy District Governor, Cheree, introduced our District Governor for 2021-22 Dana Moldovan. Dana was very impressed with the success and generosity of our club, but challenged us to have a net gain of membership of 7% by the end of this year. Among all of the points that she discussed, she stressed that we will be the home of the District Conference this year and we should strongly support it. It will be held October 8-10 at Ventura Beach Marriott Hotel. Rooms will have a discount rate, and the events too numerus to put into this article. As a side-note but equally important, Margarida is in charge of one of the events. Please help support her with your attendance.
On Friday thru Sunday some of our club members were in Ojai helping usher for The Rubicon’s production of Les Miserables. Thank you Rich Stewart and Harriet Clune for putting this event together. Dawn’s daughter did an outstanding job as one of the main characters. Thanks to all members that helped us out.
On Saturday we joined the other 2 Ventura Rotary Clubs along with Ventura Lions to with our Backpack Project. Filling more than 600 backpacks, we were honored to have District Governor Dana, and Deputy District governor Cheree to help. Thanks to Adonis and his wife and 2 children, Caren, Todd, Tom and his wife, Joe Strohman and Olivia, Ashley, Emily for helping with this project.
This week we are dark and will have our “Social” on Thursday evening at Winchesters at 5:00 pm meeting responsibilities: Greeter – Margarita (Cadillac) Attendance – Members and guests Flag – (down other members to attend) Inspiration – (enjoy and get to know our members better) Introductions of Guests – ( Possibly a new member) Drawing – (Who gets to pay the bill)
