Rotary continues efforts to stimulate an early interest in reading and this year expanded it's efforts.

One of our favorite projects every year is distributing personalized books to every single kindergarten student throughout the Tehachapi Unified School District. Each individual book features the name of the student, names of the friends of the student, the teacher’s name, their school, and their pets’ names.
This service project encourages literacy and the love of reading at an early age, because reading is the key to success in learning. During May, ten Rotarians participated in the delivery of 333 books to the kindergarten students at Golden Hills Elementary, Cummings Valley Elementary, and this year included Tompkins Elementary. The inclusion of Tompkins meant a 33% larger effort.
This project has been the source of much joy for the Rotarians who volunteer to go to the schools. The delight on each child’s face when they are called up to receive their own book makes every minute worthwhile.
Thank you to all the kindergarten teachers at TUSD for helping to make this program the success that it is and happy reading to all the recipients of the books.
