Rotary Club of Tehachapi

Rotary Club of Tehachapi was founded in June of 1987 and serves the local area through its volunteer members efforts.   The club follows the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” in doing good things for our community.  Our Ongoing community service projects include:

·         Annual Holiday Luncheon for Seniors – this December event provides a scrumptious free holiday meal, seasonal entertainment and prizes for our town’s senior citizens.

·         Smoke Detector Project – Each fall the club members visit local homes of those in need and change the batteries in smoke detectors to ensure the safety of its citizens.

·         Support of New Generations – We sponsor and support the Interact Club of Tehachapi High School and the Rotaract Club of Tehachapi.  Designed to provide youngsters with leadership and good citizen training, these groups provide community help projects throughout the school year.  Rotary provides opportunities for high school Interact students to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp each year.  The four day immersion in leadership training and citizenship building takes place in Ojai each April.

·         Literacy Project – The club provides a special personalized story book to all kindergarten kids at Golden Hills and Cumberland Valley—Kiwanis covers Tompkins—and this year we’re adding a class in Cal City.  The book helps the children get started with reading and helps them develop an interest in education.

·         Breakfast with Santa – in conjunction with Kiwanis, we hosted the annual Breakfast with Santa for the youth of our community.  We served juice, milk, coffee, pancakes and sausage and created an opportunity for a free picture with Santa.

·         International Project – Each year the club select a project to assist people in a foreign country.  Recently a group of Rotarians went to Tijuana, MX to help at an orphanage.  We also raised funds in association with the Thousand Oaks Rotary Club to provide a Van for the Orphanage. We are also participating in a Global Grant for polio eradication...Our recent Fashion Show supported it and raised $1000.

·         Community Support – throughout each year the Tehachapi Rotary Club takes the initiative to assist locally wherever possible.  We were there to help after the recent fires.  We have supported the Salvation Army’s ‘Coats for Kids’, aided their back to school clothing drive and shoe drive, participated in Christmas Angels.  We honor young men as they attain their rank of Eagle Scout.  We have even thrown our support to the dogs—Marley’s Mutts, a rescue in Tehachapi. We served at the “Old Timers” picnic in support of Parks and Rec.and we have assisted in serving at several Senior Center fundraisers.
