Sunrisers came out in force for a great weekend of inspiration, connection, and fun!
After a two year absence, the District Conference returned as an in-person celebration. District Rotarians responded by GETTING LOUD and Sunrisers came out in force for a great weekend of inspiration, connection, and fun!
DG Scott Phillips’ theme this year to GET LOUD and promote Rotary in our communities was evident throughout the conference. It kicked off Friday night with a welcome reception on the rooftop of the Santa Barbara Beachfront Hilton overlooking the Santa Barbara waterfront. Saturday was filled with inspiration and information on getting our stories told, a community service project at the Boys & Girls Club, and excursions to local attractions. The dinner featured the introduction of dignitaries from our visiting Sister Districts in Korea (D3721 and D3722) and Mexico (D4140), a silent auction with proceeds benefitting TRF and PolioPlus, and an 80s dance party to close out the night. Sunday’s focus was on our district’s incredible youth programs, Interact, Youth Exchange, RYLA, and Youth Empowerment Seminars (YES), and also heart-wrenching stories from a panel on human trafficking moderated by our district’s task force chair.
Special thanks to Lily Carey, Joe Clark, LuzMaria Ortiz, Dennis Johns, Kimi Kawaguchi, Kathleen Rogers, and Diana Washburn for volunteering at the registration tables on Friday night and Saturday morning; and to Dennis for also serving as Sergeant-at-Arms on Saturday.
Thank you to Chris Baxter for organizing the Friday night welcome reception and the very successful silent auction which supported PolioPlus and The Rotary Foundation.
Thank you Luz Maria Ortiz for addressing the audience at the Saturday night dinner party and sharing the longtime relationship with our sister district in Mexico, District 4140.
Thank you Kathy Scroggs for serving on the panel discussing the district's RYLA program.
Thank you Bruce Belfiore and Gloria Cavallero for hosting some of the Youth Exchange students during the conference.
President Judith was decked out in her Rotary garb and made the rounds among the dignitaries present, DG Scott Phillips, DGN Mike Dutra, and speaker and new PHF John Palminteri.
President Judith proudly waved the SB Sunrise flag during the precession of flags at the beginning of the Saturday night dinner party.
DG Scott took the stage decked in GET LOUD pink and Rotarians enjoyed a delicious dinner and program.
